After 5 days of pushing, pulling, loosening, lubing, scissoring, dismantling, cleaning, and general fondling, I am able to pick up the 0550 off the desk and flick it open. Thanks Bladeforums for the numerous posts on the subject. I am now a proud ZT 0550 owner!

Just curious if yours is a gen 2? I got my gen 2 two days ago and was able to flick it open (just thumb, no wrist) since day one. The detent is rather strong but nothing like the horror stories I've heard, which were usually with the gen 1s.

Love the knife by the way. I'm not sure where people usually fall on this but I prefer my 0550 over my 0561. And my 0301 and 0350 for that matter.

I thought that may be the case. I've never held a gen 1 to know just how tough the detent is. Glad to hear it broke in for you. Now you have to get a gen 2 to keep it company ;)

Mine is gen1 too. My 0551 wasnt as bad as the 0550. Not that mine was that bad just took a couple days and a small learning curve.
