I walk in my neighborhood for my daily exercise. There a lot of hunters in the area. I liked the idea of this vest http://www.adelineadeline.com/accessories/apparel/lightning-vest.html#.UinlZiLD_cd but thought it was a tad expensive. I made this prototype from one continuous strand (85') of day-glo paracord, looks brighter than the photo. No dangly ends as in the ad. It will be easy to make one using reflective cord if I walk or bike ride in the dark. Tony

Looks good asemery. Sometimes actually BEING SEEN, is the best way; and you vest looks like it fits that bill very nicely.

As a guy who runs sometimes longer distances (20, 30, 40 miles), any little thing extra to help be seen adds to safety. Something
light weight like that vest, but done with the cord innards removed, is something I'd wear for sure. Same with the reflective stuff,
come winter it's hard to do the runs when the sun is up - and work a 40+ hour week.
Thanks for sharing!

I like it, to relate a story on how it could help:

When I was late teens I was hunting in brush country of Amelia County,Va. Lots of lowlands and low brush where they run deer with dogs. Hunting on a farm of course bordered by a road. Misty morning and dogs are running on paper mill land across the road, I am posted 50 yards off the road. I see a patch of brown/tan moving evenly and parralell with the ground through breaks in the brush and trees. Much too fast for a human walking and coming from the sound of the dogs. My heart begins that familiar pounding.
Points one and two- 1) I knew the direction of the road from where I was sitting and 2) I could not 100% make out the "animal" yet, so gun never left my lap.

As the object of interest hit a nice clear lane and the road swept more to my right and closer..... a man on a bicycle in a large brown cordouroy coat with hood up......right color, right body posture and moving parallel. Thank God my father had beaten shooting safety into me. Plenty people shot every year, it is ALWAYS the fault of the shooter but there are things people can do to help protect themselves. No one ever had to fuss at me to put my orange on after that one!

I will never forget the sick feeling I had knowing how excited I was and what might have happened.

Not a hunter .. but a camper and photographer especially in the fall hunting season here when the colours are gold and red.

Kudos and respect.

May your earned wisdom be shared here. As much as I try to interpret the timeframe here around when guns and bows are afield in crown land, I do make my last pre-winter and best explorations when the fall colours are high.

I wear reflective gear even between gun/bow seasons in the fall if there is any chance of harm, however misinterpreted.

Be visible, be noisy if bears are an issue.

Imalterna, thanks for this reminder.
