Hey guys,
I grew tired of sitting on my butt this spring break and watching all of you guys having fun out there, so I decided to go out on a day hike. I remembered that there is a county park just 10 minutes north of my new home so I grabbed my Camelbak Mule, knives, and a fishing pole and headed out. As soon as I got there I remembered that my fishing license hadn't been renewed so I drove in a circle to scout the area and went to the local wally world for my license.
The license turned out to be quite the adventure as the only associate in the area was working the paint counter as well. So a teacher and I stood at the gun counter and chatted a bit of the fish we hoped to catch that day (she was waiting for her license as her husband picked out tackle and food). Our wait turned out to be about 45 minutes but the company made time go by fast. Her husband would periodically stop by with his basket full of goodies and laugh at us for having to wait so long
Once the license was purchased I raced back to the park trying to make up for lost time since I was attempting to get in a few hours before my wife got out of work.
Upon arrival, I picked a spot to leave my Expedition and walked my way out to a nice shady spot by the Nueces River in Hazel Bazemore Park.
Here's all of my gear that I took along, Camelbak Mule, tackle box, fishing pole:
This is the general area, it was sunny outside today, but with a nice cool breeze:
I knew I wouldn't be catching anything in this area, but it was peaceful enough to just drop a line in the water and be outside.
And here's a few EDC shots and my Mug:
Overall it was a nice day, I didn't really get to put my knives to use but I'll get to tomorrow as I'll be at the family ranch hopefully with a bar-b-que. If you guys have nothing to do, get outside - it's free and relaxing. Put some of that equipment to use. I had to dust my Camelbak off and would like to do a day hike at least once a week or so to feel more productive (by day hike I mean hike around for a few hours - not necessarily the whole day).
I hope you guys get to go out too, take care, J.
