Hi,

Here are a few pics from my day hike today with my son in Whiteshell Provincial Park, Manitoba, Canada. The hike is on the Canadian Shield... lots of granite landscape:

Great shots & great looking area Walkabout. What type of wildlife is around in that part of Canada? I am not familar with Canada's park rules, do they have specified camping areas, or can you stop in any area?
Stickinc1 beat me to it, also was wondering about the knife.
Great shots, hope you and your son had a great time & got in some dad and son bonding time . . . .
Be safe

Hi,

Mostly deer, grouse (spruce and ruffed), coyote, black bear (don't encounter much... the occasional bear sign).

I think on this trail (only 13km) there is no overnight camping... it's meant as a day hike. My guess is that it's not patrolled, and you could likely set up tents off trail without being noticed.

Thanks for the information Walkabout. It seems like a great place to stay a few days and explore the area, IF you did not get arrested & have to forfeit all of your gear to the authorities . . . . :)
Would definitely ruin a good week-end . . .
Be safe.

Great shots! That shelter looked actually beefy enough with the insulation to use. I find them around here often enough but they are clearly too unsubstantial to use and reflect kids just farting around (which is the best way for a kid to fart around in my books). Keep those trip reports coming! Wish I could return the Whiteshell and Riding Mountain someday, they hold fond memories for me.

Nice pics buddy. I'm next to you in Sask. With the cold and sporadic weather this spring I missed the Morels, or so it seems. Did you come across any on your side ?
