So i got off early today and decided it was time to get out and use my new camera. Gunner and I jumped in the car and headed out to see what there is to see in Oklahoma.
A little scenery:
Burnt out tree...I'm gonna guess lightening:
Found this little guy on the way up to take the panoramic above:
Now this is a wildlife reserve so i was really excited to see what kind of animals and such i could sneak up on...
I guess i will start small and work my way up the ladder.
Where were grass hoppers all over the place. Gunner was going crazy trying to catch them for about the first 10 minutes we were walking around, but he quickly decided it was too hot.
Its not the best pic, but this little guy was really moving. I followed it around for a few minutes, but this was the best I could do. It looks like some sort of really big ant with a brightly colored rear-end.
I found some dragonflies by one of the lakes:
Next on the list are the birds...sorry my stalking skills were not as good as I would have liked. I was not able to get close to these guys.
This was my first experience with prairie dogs, but i got lots of pics. these guys are skittish, but if you stand still long enough for them to get used to you and move slow you can get really close. These are the better pics...i will save you from having to wait for them all having to load.
Since i was testing out the new camera I have a video of these guys. It is taking forever to upload, but i will add it to the thread when it finishes.
The pamphlet I picked up on the way in said that the reserve had Elk, Bison, and Wild Longhorns but I was only able to find the longhorns. The first one I came across was grazing next to the road. It was a loan bull. Not as big as the Blank Angus bull my parents have on the farm, but still he was pretty cool.
While i was hiking around I spotted a group of females and a calf.
Being from the NC mountains, it was kind of cool to see some of the local vegetation... luckily i was able to avoid injuring myself on these guys.
