So I finally got out today. it was 90 degrees out and the sun was out, no clouds! I packed up the pack with some bug spray, my nikon coolpix 5400, 12lb trilene big game, fishing pole, tackle box with all my bass stuff and some trout stuff, nestea bottle, my little PSK with a SAK and lighter on the outside (just some med supplies inside & signaling mirror), hand sanatizer both for sanitizing my hands & starting a fire if need be, twine, a 2' piece of flexible steel wire and of course my knife. The knife held up awesome. I used it to cut the bottle to make a fish trap, cut the twine for both the trap and the snare. I made a spring snare trap and found two sticks with nubs coming off of them and carved them to fit snug but slide easy. Sharpened up the stick that goes onto the ground, cleaned up where the twine would go on the trigger. I did some chopping with it, a tree had recently fallen over and i decided to beat the crap out of the edge i thinned out a bit for a better bite, but the blade held up just fine. It somewhat shaved after i was done with it, that oak was pretty hard. I did some prying looking for bait too, but as youll see in the last blurry pic (sun hit as i was taking the pic, wish i could have brought my DSLR, this camera has a manual focus but it's by digital, hard to explain lol) i found a night crawler on the way back. Just how luck goes, huh! The knife stayed clean throughout the use also. Well anyways, here are the pics that do the talkin for the knife better than i do. Still cuts paper cleanly so the edge isnt gone whatso ever, and the tip held up fine. Here's my ugly mug, it was hot!

I didn't tie the snare all the way to the twine because i wasn't actually using it, so i just tied it so you'd get the idea and i also made it larger than it needed to be, because i was running out of time. Here's the rest of the pics.

Hi SuzukiGS750EZ -

Cool pics!

thanks for making the snare trap - I am still not sure how it works, but I'll do a little googling later.

Your JK looks awesome - I like the blue liners a lot - I just asked Stomper to add red liners to my RWC that will have maple burl handles.

Thanks again for the pictures - very cool!

best regards -

I'll try and explain as best i can. There are two notches in either piece of the wood that fit together kind of like a puzzle piece, but you don't want them together too much because they need to slide loose when the animal trips it. There is a stake shoved into the ground as an anchor. You then tie the twine to the tree and pull it down, and the other end of the twine is tied to the trigger and then off of the trigger is the snare. So when the animal walks through the snare and keeps on going, it trips the trigger and the trigger slips out from the stake and takes the animal off the ground. The benefit of a spring snare if that the animal is off the ground away from predators, but i scaled it down because it was strictly for pictures. If i were making a real one i would have doubled or tripled my twine to make it stronger, made a better snare and gotten a longer stake to dig into the ground. I used mother nature to my advantage and found two sticks with nubs so i didn't have to cut the notches out, and it actually made it more sensitive.

Thanks guys. I didn't even realize the blue liners were in a picture lol. I figured such a bright and flashy color such as blue would seperate tang and handle better, to make the maple burl pop a bit more. The reason i chose the burl was because i love the swirls and patterns in it, so for it to blend into the knife would have been pointless.

Thanks guys. I don't let heat keep me in unless it's just not worth it and can be done tomorrow. I just pack more water than usual. The fish was maybe two pounds, caught on a small spinner. They were in the weeds and lower water due to the heat, so i had to adapt to the weather because it was hot one minute, the next cloudy and windy. I had a great time though. I wish i knew some people in CT that i could hang out with, i dunno anyone besides my girlfriend who shares my interests, and shes not one for "sweat" lol

Too bad you are so far away, I'd turn you on to some spots here in Illinois. We really have a ton of different fishing experiences to pick from here, salmon and smallmouth in Lake Michigan, numerous excellent rivers and seemingly endless public lakes offering panfish, walleye, pike, bass and even musky.

I would check out your local Sportsman's newspaper, look for a local fishing club and you will find some like-minded people and probably end up with some good friends to boot!

Just an update on the knife. I've been using it hard and it's still kicking butt. Even let my buddy use it. Been a while since i was in this part of the forums! Nice to be back.
