Without any details it's hard to say what would be best for you. I use a Kelty Redwing 2650. Sturdy, water bladder compatible, two side pockets that hold much more than you would think, can be used with waist strap or it can be removed for lighter loads, and it's economical compared to other packs of similar size and features.

I use the BCB 25 litre daysack. Got it off ebay for about 30 bucks. Perfect for a day trip or even an overnighter since it's got tie down straps on the bottom for a bedroll.
