Daydreaming about my perfect pocketknife:

Two blade traditional
Wharncliffe +clip or pen
long pull
3 to 3.5 inches closed
not too strong a spring
under $80

The closest I have are the Case Swayback Jack, or mini copperhead w/ wharncliffe. Love them both, though neither has the long pull.

Does anyone else make a list of all the features we'd like and stare at 'knife porn' for that one perfect knife out there? Those of us who can't afford customs, that is? What are you looking for?

Stretch that out to 3 7/8", and make the clip the main blade and the Wharncliffe the secondary. You got the rest perfect. That is one about which I think a lot. Never seen one, though. The closest was a Case Wharncliffe Trapper, but they only made those in Tru-Sharp, which I eschew.

Frank, I'll take yours a step further. Muskrat clip blade in front of the Wharncliffe so both pulls on the mark side, in a saddlehorn frame, with the copperhead bolster and sunken joints.

Maybe GEC would like to tool this up for next years forum knife? We did get them to do a new frame this year, after all! ;)

Maybe something like this:

SAK should make a model called the Whittler-a Wharnie blade, a spear point blade, a saw and an awl-though I'd settle for the two blades. I like your choice alot, though I think the Canoe with a sheepsfoot like the Gunstocks would be my ideal.

This is my problem. I spend too much time / money thinking about the perfect pocket knife. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Case CV slimline trapper in yellow delrin... the perfect knife. I hated the stainless version I had in red simulated jigged bone delrin (I think that's what it was). The fit and finish was horrible, nasty to sharpen etc. Then I basically threw it away (gave it to some guy I didn't like a whole lot... let him fool with the garbage). If it wasn't for the CV blade steel I'd probably just have given up completely on Case knives. I guess I really need to buy one of their high end offerings too. That might make a difference. The length and feel of the Slimline Trapper is perfect! (Am I repeating myself yet???) Oh yeah daydreaming!!!!!:cool:

Mmmmmm...let me think.
To me, it would be something in the 3 1/4" to 3 1/2" range. Good stainless steel. Saddlehorn or dogleg handle. Mild pull (3 on 10). Clip main blade and (smaller) wharncliffe/sheepsfoot secondary (both nicks on the same side). Ebony handle (or ivory or buffalo horn).
Someday, when I win the lottery, I will contact one of the incredibly talented custom knifemakers and get it done. Meanwhile, it's nice to daydream...

Frankly, GEC should make a wharncliffe/trapper with muskrat clip in both the #48 and #66 frame.

A wharncliff/muskrat clip in the #66 frame with 440C and Elk scales (or black micarta) would be mighty nice.

This is a tough question, and I think my answer is still evolving as time goes on.
But right now my answer is:
3.5" closed single end jack
Mini-trapper style handle shape, wood handle like snakewood
Bail
Main clip blade w/ long pull
small secondary wharncliffe blade, with pull on pile side.
Made in Pennsylvania
Stainless raindrop damascus, or a stainless steel from Carpenter, but not sure exactly which one right now

More realistically, I would like to see the GEC White Owl w/ bail in 2-blade jack form; that might be close enough for me!

Nice pic. I'd buy two.

Mine would be a three bladed knife, like the stockman pattern. With Wharnie as a mainblade, a clip and a penblade as secondary. The handles should be of stag (deer) and steel bolsters.

Kind regards
Andi

Something like this: 3.5/3.75" Single spring, Clip and small Sheepfoot or Modified Pen, slant bolster, rich toffee peachseed or Greenbone.....

I'm with Wayne. I'm sure I'd buy a bunch. Gimme Elk and Black Micarta :D

I wouldn't mind seeing a knife similar to the Schrade 93ot. I'd love to see a version on GEC's #66 frame.

This is Hal's pic from another thread, not mine.

A Hawbaker Mink Skinner from GEC would work too.
