Dayton or Connecticut

Hi guys.

Bit of a newbie question here. I picked this up at a garage sale this morning. At first I thought it was a dayton pattern, but now I'm not sure. Could it be a connie? I'm not exactly sure of the weight yet (I think it's a little over 3lbs), and it's currently on a 32" handle.

Emma, that one looks Dayton-y to me. A Connie would be a third to half again taller.

I also like the way somebody hung it, with the haft slightly proud of the eye. Some members dislike that, but heads can be held tighter that way if done right. Might be hung a little closed.

Looks like the toe has been sharpened a little more than the heel, perhaps that was from damage repair. In any case, nice find and hope it works hard for you. Best of luck.

Definitely a Dayton. It's worth noting, too, that there is also a pattern known as a "Wide-Bit Dayton" or "Baltimore" that is like an in-between of the Dayton and Connecticut. But I think this is just a regular Dayton.
