Hi folks -

At the most recent gathering, I badgered John Smith until he agreed to hand craft a baldric rig for the Defensive Battle Hawk (DBH) that Mr. K helped me design several years ago.

The DBH was designed to be a home-defense tool, and an all around camp tool, with "super skeletonized" tang under the scales, a trumpet horn style cutting edge, a chisel on the back side for puncturing, and finally a sharpened point on the top aligned with the tang.

This is a picture of #1 for reference -

There have only been three made, I have two (#1 which I commissioned, and #3 which I purchased from another JK Supporter) and Cooper Woods has #2.

Darkmatter delivered this beautiful new badric a few weeks ago and I am just now getting pictures - but I have been playing with the rig since I got it from Darkmatter - Thanks John - it is awesome!

Darkmatter had to make a substantial length of belt with an adjustment buckle that rides mid chest on me. John emailed me a few times to get measurements to make sure it would be fitted for me.

The rig carries the DBH right at my waist with the adjustment right in the middle - perfectly nailed!

The leather work is beautiful, and compliment the lines of the DBH - which makes for an interesting design that I am sure was not easy to make - you check the pictures out for yourself and see what you think!

John included this little adapter that I can use to carry a sheath for a knife if I decide to do so - which I want to try with a heavier knife, like the XD XT for instance.

The adapter has Chicago bolts , and one of them is locktited static, and the other one is designed to be removed to attach the sheath loop, and then swivel back into place and lock it down with the screw. Very cool!

And even this piece has wonderfully finished edging - just really neat!

Thanks again Mr. Smith - and thank your son and wife for helping with the measurements!

Oh, baby. I like that setup. A lot.

John does some sweet sheaths, and is up to any design challenge. I use the card holder I got from him to carry my CCL and FOID cards daily.

Great pictures Andy, thanks for giving me the opportunity to build your sheath. The challenges that you give me help me become better at sheath making. And its fun:)

That is a beautiful combination. I love the design of the hawk and the baldric setup is outstanding.

Great stuff! Looks like a great looking functional design.

I too have been DarkMatter-ized, as I had sent him a BSA Hatchet that need a new sheath. John did a great job on it!

Cool - he does a great job - I have thrown him some curves but he just knocks 'em out!
