DC motors and controller question

Would it be possible to run two identically rated DC motors with the same controller (certainly not at the same time), simply by placing a switch between the controller and two motors such that you could switch between one motor or the other?
If the two machines I needed to control were next to one another and I never needed to run them at the same time, it seems like it might work.
Input?

Brome, it will work like a charm. The drive will just see it as a motor. The basic controller is not that sophisticated. It would be the same as if you had burned up your motor and replaced it with a like new one. A double pole double throw switch would be a good idea so that only one motor can be fed off of the drive. Or, be failsafe and feed the drive to a single recep so that only one motor can be powered without unplugging.

I seemed to me it would work. I just wasn't sure if there was a memory chip or anything in the controller that might get confused when I switch from one motor to the other.
Thanks,
Brome
