I REC'D THE 2000 CATALOG FROM SURPLUS CENTER. THEY HAVE DC MOTORS FROM TREADMILLS 1 1/4 HP WITH SPEED CONTROLS 0-5000 RPM'S FOR UNDER $40. HAS ANYONE USED THEM FOR A BELT GRINDER, BUFFER & ETC.?

I just got 2 of them in a couple of weeks ago. They are really only about 3/4 horse, but they are fine for smaller grinders, and tooling. Your not going to be able to run a Wilton or bader with it, it's too small and really doesn't have enough power. They seem to have a pretty substantial problem with out-of-the-box failures on the control boards, but they are pretty simple to fix. Usually caused by bad solder joints in the output power section. The motor will definately have to be enclosed to keep dust out of it, as it's a totally open design. I have a link at home to a page with schematics and directions to do a couple of simple mod's to increase power and get rid of the zero rpm start feature. Email me if your interested.

All in all, it's not a bad deal for 44.75 with shipping, but it's definately not a baldor. TANSTAAFL
