DDR Midtechs

The HTM line are his medtechs. They're MSRP is around 260 bucks. s30v blade steel, aluminum handles, liner lock. I want the bowie blade one myself.

yeah I just recently discovered he made mid-techs. It seems strange that no one really talks about them, since they're priced pretty low for a mid-tech.

Well, actually his HTM line was just released a few weeks ago. Before then he was still prototyping them (the Max Q m1a...think that was the actual name). He's since change the name of the knives, but they are the production versions of those m1a protos. Originally, he only had the radian blade style. He now offers a bowie style as well. The correct name of the knife is HTM DDR Gun Hammer, although some sites list it as m1a II.

I'm still itching to get my hands on the bowie one, but atm 250 is too rich for my blood. I would have preferred if he kept the handles g10 like the protos, but aluminum isn't bad.

yeah, they're well made. mid-tech is a term though that I feel is has been misused by makers quite a bit. ok, sure, everything is machined in his shop, but it's still ALL machined. so, it's all done by a custom maker, but mid-tech isn't really the name i think should be used. something like, WM, as in WELL MADE or HQ, high quality i think is more appropriate, but thats just my 2 cents

Yep. Personally I don't mind if a knife is machined or made 100% by hand using a hacksaw, hammer/forge, and sharpening stones. Gimme a knife that looks good, functions, and is sturdy.

seems like it'd be a great alternative to the Sebenza then, in terms of high-end knives at around $300-400. I think the DDR mid-techs are much cheaper than that even.

how do the DDR midtechs compare to his full customs?

The machining and finishing is done in a manner that reduces the amount of hand finishing. Also, the intricacy of some of the machined detail may be a less complex to reduce machine time on the HTMs. Other than that, the materials are top notch, the tolerances are still just as tight as in a custom; and the details are still there in the HTM's.
