I have not posted many shots lately. It seems that things have just gotten so busy. I made it over to Darrel's today and there was a lot of new, and one old school, knives in the trays. I snapped a lot of pix and thought I would share. Triggers, Gunhammers, a couple of awesome AXD's, an old school 7" Madd Maxx I, a Bullnose Celtic Maxx (my personal favorite), and a couple that, well, if I showed ya, I'd have to shoot ya.

There aare two new blade styles shown in this thread. A Torpedo blade on the Damascus Gunhammer, and a clip point recurve shown on a damascus trigger.
enjoy!

By the way, do you know what's up with the forum? I get a "404 not found" :(

Nice pics. I started to save for a nice custom when I'll get my engineering degree. A DDR is considered ;) Maybe a small Maxx or a trigger. (I own a Heat and owned a Cuda Maxx, loved both, Maxx was just too big to EDC)

What is the difference between the Trigger and the Gunhammer?

Darrel looks great and so do the knives. I really like that AXD.

Darrel has always been upfront about his use of CNC machining-thats how the AXD scales get the pattern Gig.

Thanks, Dan! You KNOW I am a big DDR fan and supporter.

The third AXD pattern is really head scratching, regardless of the method. Fantastic.

Best of both worlds: hi-tech and hand tech. Nice!

BTW, that smug look on Darrel's face comes from enjoying life having lost 100+ lbs in the past year.

BIG thumbs up for that fortitude.

Hi cybrok:

re: Forum, we are all way to busy to maintain a forum right now. Life has been pretty hectic and, on my front, I have had far less little time than it takes to dedicate to mod'ing and admin'ing a forum. It is more work than you would imagine.

Differences between a trigger and GH are in primarily the size and profile. The Trigger has inlays on both sides, GH doesn't. The GH has ergonomic contouring on the handles, the trigger has chamfered or radiused edges, but they are not contoured like the GH. The first Triggers may not have been assisted. They are now assisted.

size: Trigger:
Blade Length: 3 3/8"
Overall Length: 7 3/8"
Closed Length: 4 1/16"
Blade Steel: Crucible CPM S30V ~ Flat Ground ~ NRS Finish
Handle Material: Solid Titanium~ Carved and Contoured

size: Gunhammer
Blade Length: 3.9"
Overall Length: 8.8"
Closed Length: 4.8"
Blade Steel: Crucible CPM S30V ~ Flat Ground ~ Hand Rubbed

Amen to that Coop. DDR is a good guy. I am glad to see him feeling so good. He has certainly been a best of friends to me. He has been there for me during some very rough times. It makes me happy to see him happy. Yeah yeah, I know people"GO TO OPRAH, GO TO OPRAH".... I'll shut up.

It is something to behold. I watched the Gunhammer evolve from a concept on paper, to a computer mock up and a CAD drawing, to prototype and production. I am very lucky to be able to watch Darrel work out these awesome designs.

Yeah, I almost didnt know who was holding that knife he looks so different!

Those Triggers look good, but they would look even better with the pattern off of the handles of the AXD on them!

It works.

maybe one last question I hope you can answer.

To me, the trigger looks like a Heat. My question is about the thumbstud. On the heat it was closer to the pivot and acted like a blade stopper. Is there a particular reason why it has been moved?

Thanks

Nice pics!!

Darrel looks great, and those damascus Gunhammer/Triggers are just beautiful !

Really looking forward to making it to the top of the list for my pair :D

Thanks for the post!

Hahaha another thumbsup on losing all the weight, whew.

I totally didn't recognize him either. Double-taked when I saw the "DDR" above the pic.

Kudos.

Actually, Darrel has dropped 185lbs. That is astonishing.

It works.

Hy Cybrok. The Trigger's blade is shaped to stop up against a standoff spacer set withing the handles and liners. I think the heat used the thumb studs to stop the blade against the handle. On most manuals that I have, the thumb studs are more in line with the positioning of the Triggers. As I recall, the trigger started out as a manual. It is possible the thumb stud placement stuck from the earlier models. I can tell you that the placement on the trigger makes it far easier (for me) to open the blade as opposed to thumb studs that are set to brace against the handles.

If I get more info, I will modify or bump this post.

Thanks to all for the great words.
Dan hit the nail on the head with his explanation of the two blade stop set ups.
I hope this covers it.

Enjoy
Darrel

mmm, thanks for the explainations.

Guess I'll have to get a Small Maxx AND a Maxx Q then :p

I got a special bank account for this ;) Some have one for vacations, I have some cash waiting to get a nice knife.

And M. Ralph. Glad to hear from you. You do look healthy on those pics. The knives look great too.

Thanks DDR. I will get some pics of the MaxxQ on my next stop-over cybrok. Although I have a few larger maxx's. the small maxx is one I want.

If that celtic bullnose wasn't "owned", it would now be in my stash.
