So I wanted somewhat of a tactical tanto. By that I meant something in the blade style of a Japanese Tanto but with modern materials and construction. The Hanwei looks interesting but I'm not sure about the strength of the steel. So I picked up this discontinued little jewel in a trade...
It's made out of good 1095 and the earlier Spec Plus blades were pretty durable and robust. I have a Survival Bowie in 1095 by them and it's still one of my favorite knives. But I don't care for the Cold Steel style Americanized Tanto. So I set to grinding it in more of a traditional shape. I slapped a nice convex grind on it and rounded the transition from blade to tip to make a somewhat japanese style kissaki. Removing all the steel made it faster in the hand and gave it was i think will be strong edge that cuts with far less resistance. Here is my tactical tanto.
