De assist a blur?

The blur is an amazingly smooth knife. Taking out the assist really makes it feel better to many people. As for me the action is great but the detent is too weak for my taste. The detent strength seems to be hit or miss from what I have read.

As for how just take down the knife and you will see behind one of the stainless pieces a small bar. That bar is the spring so just remove that and put everything else back together and the knife will be a normal manual action folder.

Hey members, I see some discussions about removing the assist on the kershaw blur? Why

Some people prefer the action of a blur without the torsion bar assist.

I'd actually like to know how.

It's very easy but it does require disassembly of the knife. Basically after you disassemble there will be a liner and underneath that will be a milled out area in the scale with a torsion bar sits. Then just remove the bar and reverse the disassembly.

There's been threads like this the past few weeks on the Kershaw subforum AND here.

Blur is very nice deassisted, I find the detent to be sufficient.

If you prefer manual, try it with the tosion bar out. Like I've said in the past, its really shocking how buttery smooth it is deassisted, seems like its made to be a manual.

Really easy, just remove the non locking scale, take out the torsion bar, and replace the scale. Presto.

Because the Blur is a really nice knife that many people enjoy but not everybody favors assisted opening.
I prefer a manual knife, so I got a Blur because I like the style and knife in general, so I took the assist out right when I got it. Makes a nice smooth manual folder and I have a knife I really like and enjoy without the part of it that I didn't like.

To take out the torsion bar, open the knife so the detent of the spring isn't there, take it off. Right behind the liner on the locking side you will see a little silver bar. Take it out, put your knife back together, and now you have a smooth manual Blur.

I think the "de-assist a blur" crowd is a vocal minority. I don't know if that it a 40% minority or a 10% minority, but I for one am glad they made the Blur a speedsafe opener. I enjoy the "whack" of the blade opening under the spring, but I can also slow it down with both hands if I need to not freak out sheeple. Maybe I'll get tired of it, but I doubt it.

My opinion might have been different if it was a flipper, on the other hand. I really like flippers, my Blur blem was a way to get an S30V blade relatively inexpensively, and I've been pleasantly surprised how much I like it overall.

Why not? It's all about personal preference. I bought one here on the exchange 4 years ago and the seller warned me it was without the torsion bar, I would never but the bar back in it isn't necessary. The detent is as strong as any ither manual locking liner knife I own, super smooth and no bar rattle. What's not to like? It will still open in a flash too.
