de-assisting 0566 and changes to design

So one of my favorite EDCs is the ZT 0566, de-assisted. My first is a CF with low-ish serial # (in the 200s). De-assisted, if flips like a dream. Great detent, neither too light nor stiff. I traded for another 0566, a later serial number, in the 900s...de-assisted, the detent is much weaker and it's not much of a flipper without the torsion bar. The torsion bar is much shorter on the later model, so KAI made some design adjustments, maybe because the early 566's were pretty stiff? Maybe they made the detent weaker for the same reason? Just a theory I wanted to float here...

if you want the detent to be stronger you could always enlarge the detent in the blade slightly wit a end mill bit.

Or buy a knife that isn't designed as a assisted flipper like a 560.

I was really unhappy with my 566 deassisted. It had a ton of lock rock and the detent was so weak it would open with a wrist flick. I pushed in the lockbar a little and now it's perfect. Not sure if that really hurts anything but the detent is strong now and the lockup is rock solid.

So you just cranked pressure on the lockbar with the blade out?

Yes I just took it apart and put a little pressure on the lockbar to push it over. After I put it back together I had to move it a touch in the other direction or it would stick. It didn't need to be moved far at all to make it work.

I received a new torsion bar from zt for my 0566 yesterday. Torsion bar seems way too short to even get I'm so I'll be sticking with deassisted. Mine seems to be decent with being deassisted, but it won't open fully without flicking the wrist.

I had the same torsion bar issue with a pair of 0566 knives. Had me confused for a while until I had them both apart at the same time and noticed the difference.
