So I have a 477 that has been collecting dust and decided to de-assist the knife in hopes of more pocket time..
Well, I will warn you unless you have rocket science degree in engineering, it's no joke. The removal of the coiled spring is not that difficult.. Where it bites you is when you remove the inner barrel that holds the washers and when trying to figure out the maze that the barrel has that fits the washers.
The assist is built in the pivot, with washers that have groves and teeth, its a real jig saw puzzle.. The pivot has tons of parts and after about an hour of it, would love to kick jonearlt in the nuts, 2x.. Seriously, why make this so complicated:confused:

Never tried it myself, but you'll see fellow members with de-assisted knives for sale on the marketplace. I'd PM them!

Ive de and reassisted a Volli several times as well as a barrage (basically the same). I didnt feel that deassisting was troublesome, but the first reassist was a little tricky. Keep in mind, im a certified master tech, so taking things apart and putting them back together is what i do.
I know emissaries are a little different, but never tackled one. I did see a pic by pic tutorial in deassisting one. Cant remember where though. Best of luck.

I have deassisted many BM knives.
But, not a 477.
The knives I have deassisted could be quite similar in design to the 477.
However, your descriptions are unclear to me.
Could you take some pictures?

LOL.. I was pretty frustrated when I wrote the description.. Probably makes no sense..
I am fairly mechanically inclined. Not a master Tech but do have a associates in applied science in Motorsports and Marina. Took it just for kicks to work on my bike and watercraft's.. But I do fix and open up a quite a bit of stuff, so not a complete idiot.

I did get it back together, I just had to take a break before I get :grumpy::grumpy:
The inner barrel that holds the pivot has machined groves and directional specific, so it can only fit a certain way, which makes the install of the washers a nightmare. Took be a bit to figure out, but on this knife you would have to split the inner frame and lay them down one at a time vs the traditional benchmades where you would slip in the washers while holding the axis back.

She feels great now. Few other knives that I have de-assisted felt little off with the action but this one feels like a natural.

Awesome! Glad to see you got it. Yeah, thats a different animal than the Volli/Barrage.

I'm glad to hear you've gotten it back together and all is functioning fine. From the pics you provided it looks as though the 477 is quite similar to the 665. Well except the 665 has the added complication that it's push button adds to the mechanism.
See below.
Some BM assisted knives are awesome carry's even without having their assist.

Yeah that would be it.. I have a lock as well but not the extra press button as you mentioned.
Not for the 1st time pivot adjusters.

Thanks for being disrespectful to a great knife designer. Maybe you should just own up to your mistake.

WTF is your problem today..?

Yeah man, I would dig up his grave and kick him in the balls??? WTF is wrong with you, are you seriously ill?
You are going to come here and take words out of context to thread crap...?
No need to stir stuff up, and why are you trolling so hard today? Seriously, I need a ANSWER!!
It was already frustrating enough and now you want to come thread crap. Thanks for the support..
If you have nothing to add to the thread then maybe you should put your senseless post elsewhere, or better yet go try some good ol rock kicking session..

Joking or not your statement is about a great person who recently passed away. I saw something I didn't like and said something about it. I'm sorry your getting so upset about it. I won't post in your thread anymore. I said what I needed to.

To be honest, I was not fully aware that Warren Osborn was the knife designer of the 477. I just put designer and was not directed to him specially.. But I really do not appreciate you taking a large crap on this thread fishing for excuses for unnecessary argument by changing the subject as it was clearly out of text. You really think a guy is going to come here on benchmade subform and trash Osborn intentionally? I am sure a real man would take pride on trashing a deceased individual, beating women as well..
The IDEA for the thread was suppose to be an INFORMATIVE one for those who might encounter the same problem, as you clearly missed that part.
I really do not have any mistakes to own up to, as my knife is wonderful and was able to put back to my satisfaction. Anyone who is not a huge knife nut who takes this knife apart for the 1st time will face some degree of being overwhelmed...I posted to inform and possibly help others as I was unable to find any further info on this knife.
The post is now edited to your satisfaction.
