de-fuzzing canvas micarta scales (busse)

So... been using my ASH for a while and I noticed the canvas micarta is starting to fuzz up more -- I assume the canvas is peeking out out of the phenolic.

How can I clean this up? I assume I'm not going to cut them with anything... do they fall off by themselves? Sandpaper?

Thanks,

Sand em and keep em oiled with mineral oil.

I am curious if anyone has tried to just pass the slabs over a flame to burn the fuzzies off. A quick pass sure won't hurt the slabs.

Andy,

You can sand just the fuzzies off, or do you mean something a little more aggressive? I like the texturizing that's on them, and I'm afraid if I use anything coarser than 300 or 600 grit I'll round out the peaks.

Progunner,
That sounds neat but hell if I'm going to be the first to try it! ;)

With use, sheath wear, etc., the fibers will wear back just like the little rubber needles on the sides of brand new tires;)
Also with use, your hand oil and anything you have on your hand will mat them down.

I told Jerry that I prefered how the scales are so fuzzy on some of the knives I've received from them and that he should make it a regular option. ...he told me that it happens when the bit gets dull.
I told him to save all the dead bits and cut my handles with 'em:D

That is only supposed to be done with fuzzy yellow work gloves over a camp fire:D

I thought you were going to say tire radials there for a second...

that is what i was going to suggest.

maybe a quick pass with a propane torch.

I think I would try a lighter (like one of the flam resistant wands for camping) before I tried a propane torch.........way less heat for the first attempt. Who's gonna be first?

I like the Fuzzy handles.

Burning will take the Fuzz right off, but whay would you want to?

Maybe put tape on and pattern the fuzz?

Brazilain Ash on a Busse?
