De Leon knives- What kind of quality?????

I like DeLeon knives. I have one of his large bowies. A friend of mine has several of his knives from small hunters, to larger models and a push dagger.

One thing I have noticed on his knives that I dont care for are thick (overly thick) edges. You may like them like that, I personally had mine thinned down.

Fit and finish on all I have examined are very good, not always perfect, but very good.

I have used mine some for working outdoors. I dont do that much, but if I have to I may as well use a nice knife and have fun. It has been used for cutting and chopping limbs (the ones on trees). Even with the edge thinned down I have had no problems with edge weakness or diminished edge holding.

His leather work is nice. Pretty basic, but well done and sturdy.

Ok, the thing I don't like about De Leon knives is the finish he puts on them. All his knives seem to have a brushed belt finish that kind of washes out the crispness of his grinds. Other than that, they look to be pretty well made knives.

Since I've only seen a couple of his knives, this isn't a completely fair or complete statement, but I also didn't like the edge thickness, or the finish Danbo mentions.

A friend of mine has several more I haven't seen.., and he does swear by their strength, and how well made the pieces are. I'm sure others will chip in, but I did think the craftsmanship regarding pure fit.., was excellent on those I saw and handled.
