I have been seeing a lot of De Leon knives on Ebay. Does anyone have one of these? If so, what is your opinion of these knives? Thanks, Dwain

When I saw him in Texas, he had almost exclusively gone to western knives made for the Cowboy re-enactors like the SASS members.

For the prices at the time I last saw him, I could find cleaner work at the same or a lesser pricepoint. He makes good knives but, at that time there was still some room for improvement, especially at his prices.

I like his knives quite a bit. My favorite being the large bowie that I have had for a few years now. Its one of those that was almost to pretty to use....but I use it anyway because its so much fun. Durability is very good...no problems at all.

I have a freind that has several of them, and he likes them quite well.

We both agree on one problem with them, and that is the edge that he puts on them. All that I have examined have had edges that leave you wondering if he bothered to sharpen them at all. A knifemaker (Max Burnett) here on the forums re-profiled the edge and sharpened my bowie for me. My friend had to work his edges over for quite a while to sharpen them up. Once there however, edge holding is good and easy to restore.

I agree with Sid that fit and finish could be better. However, the last time I looked his prices were quite reasonable and a bargain. I was not aware that he went to mostly period style and I have no idea what his current prices are. If they have gone up alot with no improvement in fit and finish, then you would be advised to look elsewhere.

I suppose it depends on what models you see on ebay, and how much you can get them for. If the price is right, then rest assured they will serve you well.

My bowie (I love this knife :) ) :
