De-spooned my Hogue EX01 clip...

As per the title, I finally acted on an earlier impulse to adjust the pocket clip on the fantastic Hogue EX01.

It was weird but I found the spoon shaped clip really put me off carrying this knife as much as it deserved - as a consequence I decided to address this 'problem' (note: it really isn't a functional problem, rather an aesthetic problem for me)

Much happier and confident that it'll see more pocket time as a result...

Cheers,

Ben

Note: if you open/enlarge the first image you can actually see slight scratches where the original clip width made contact with the scale.

The only other thing I have personally chosen to do is to remove the additional lock - I found that I would accidentally engage this lock almost every time. I am happier without it...

Is it a liner lock? I need to find a place locally that carries them. I don't spend that kind of money without having a feel of it before purchase.

I would prefer something a little better than the cm154, but it is not like I have been disappointed with any of the knives I have owned. They all were well under $200 though. Well I think I am babbling at this point so...

Nice alteration, congratulations

You can find these for well under $200. They are button locks and the 154cm is a decent middle of the road steel. Don't hesitate on the EX-01, it's a great knife.

Next to my PPT

As to the topic, I really like the spoon shaped clip.

Hey De Plano,

No it isn't a liner lock - it is a button lock (think a version of a compression lock). You can search on YouTube for Allen's videos about the lock strength and actually see tests vs. other lock types.

I personally am comfortable with the locking mechanism. Like you, I wouldn't object to a steel upgrade, but the CM154 seems to be holding up just fine. Moreover, it is literally the only knife that I have ever bought to have a mirror finished edge. Very impressive.

Thanks for your comment about the adjustment to the clip - I just hated the way the original looked, but it did work fine. I'm happier with it now...

Cheers!

Hey Neverdie36, nice shot of the PPT and the EX01.

We kinda cross posted in responding to De Plano. As I tried to point out the clip as standard is perfectly functional just not to my taste - clearly it is to yours and that's cool. Just not for me and I'm oddly much happier with it now... ;)

Got mine last week with the "green g-mascus" handles. Love the shape, the feel in hand, and the steel.

It felt odd using the thumb stud after years of carrying only flippers. Also closing the blade takes a little getting used to - I like to wrist flip it and it also takes practice.

Wanted to add that the clip doesn't bother me because I never use 'em.

Well I will check one out. They look nice and I like the all American made.

Being a lefty I think contributes to the dislike of liner locks. That is probably not it, but I can keep telling myself that ;)

Love my ex01. Clip is goofy but not a big deal to me. I think str makes a clip for them.
