De-stress day in local park

Thanks to me not sleeping ever, and because I drive a commercial truck all day starting at 0500 hours, and thanks to me falling asleep due to insane amounts of fatigue, my hours were "somewhat" changed at work. I do 2 on, 1 off, 3 on, 1 off. One would think this would help, but in fact i feel worse than ever, because one day is really not enough to de-stress and relax at all......what really makes it worse is the GF and kids always get to sleep in on their weekend and on their days off from school, leaving me very resentful and bitter about the fact that i get up stinking early and work int he coal mine (figuratively speaking) . I average 2 - 4 hours a night sleep, and have no idea what sleeping in is.

however, i made the best of it today.....went for a little walk in a local park (seeing as now i cannot drive anywhere and stay overnight like i normally do on my weekends....)

we had about 150 mm of hard pouring rain this morning. I sat at my computer, staring out the window, grumbling and mumbling. However the rain soon broke and the sun popped out. Slid my chair back, flipped my GF the bird, I mean flipped her a kiss....and ran out and went to pickup my truck from the secure parking i store it at.

drove up the HWY for about 30 minutes and parked the truck at the trailhead.

stepped into the woods and all the BS and stress and fatigue started melting away. I had packed two new plant/mushroom foraging books with me, in the hopes of finding wild food....

lots of photos coming leave a few post spaces for em.

Despite being in nature, fresh air and away from the hell (the city) I felt quite winded today...normally being in nature energizes me, but I felt pretty damn bad today. I am a bit alarmed by this, as I am normally the one who tramps everywhere in the woods all day and then some, and then hops around camp all night tending to fire and cooking......I'm the type of hiker that doesn't stop all day, goes hard, sets a brutal pace and relishes it. Yet the last few times i have been out I have been beat to crap by a simple 3 hour hike on relatively modest terrain. I blame it on work.

some fungus on a stick! give it a nibble!

thats about it, a short 5 hour jaunt for me. Back the hell in the AM. Do i feel recharged? kinda, not really. Kinda miserable at this point in time right now. Unable to get any sort of balance in my life at work and play. Don't get me wrong, I love driving commercial Roll-Off bin truck, I was born to truck, but there is no balance...its all GOGOGOGOGOGOGO no breaks no piss breaks no lunch etc, just DRIVE.......feeling pretty burnt out. No time to gold pan, no time to camp, no time to go bush for a while, etc etc....

Will resolve it soon........maybe find a different company part time...

glad the butt pad i gave you got some use.

i guess you could throw that float into the fishing kit i gave ya :D

I did bring a crapload of knives with me ( i am a Bladeforums KnifeKnut after all) but due to good weather there was lots of locals out enjoying the park. Not wanting to (my god, normally i do not care about how others feel) scare anyone I kept my knife use to my Helle Odel and my CRKT SUMMA. I carried my ZT 0121, CRKT Summa, HELLE Odel, HELLE fixed blade, SOG NWR (north west ranger), CRKT Texas Toothpick, ESEE HEST and my JUNGLAS with me today.

god i love knives and the outdoors. Its so much fun

I am begging you, PLEASE send about 200 feet of that snow here! :D

I want to see blowing snow drifts covering skyscrapers, timberwolves in the street, and the sheeple tunneling out in fear

one can spend a LOT of time walking in the woods, check out my woods wanderings today, as logged on my GPS (again, thanks JCA21!)

Nice pics once again , Bushman. I think I might lose my job soon :( , and the first thing I thought of was going in the bush for a spell to clear my brain from city mush and find a new direction. Work, work, work...then BAM ! Nuthing.

Snow?? We got it in droves. I'd rather have your scenery man ! Nonetheless , I think I'll pack the jeep up and get outta dodge soon. The city eats on a man.
Wild edibles are my springtime/summer efforts this year. Be a couple of months before we see any growth though. Really looking forward to it.
My resolution? No more gear...way more trips ;) Thanks for the post.

no prob my fellow beer swilling bacon/poutine eating Canuck!

I'm so itching to get the :eek::eek::eek: edit out of Vancouver its driving me mad.

I have come so close to crashing 10 tons of truck as I'm driving, i get distractd by little things like bunches of wild edible plants, tinder materials growing on the side of roads, etc

One NEEDS to re-connect with Nature WEEKLY to prevent from going mad.

Last Child In The Woods , although directed at parents......is AN EXCELLENT read, if you cannot afford to buy it, lemme know know and I will send you my copy.

Great Photos Bro

I'm sure most of use would love to spend the day, weekend, etc with you hiking that area

Thanks again for taking the time to post all those photos

ANYTIME any of you want to experience the beauty of BC canada, let me know. I would love to take anyone on a tour of multiple regions here! (what the hell am i doing trucking? I should be a wilderness tour person...lol)

Excellent pics Bushman. Nothing like a walk in the woods all alone.

On another note, you need to start getting some sleep! Lack of sleep is the root to many problems...I do shift-work myself, 1 week morning shifts, 1 week evening and 1 night, and find it damn hard to get into a good sleeping rhythm, resulting in me always being tired.

Lack of sleep has been linked to prostate cancer, heart disease, headaches, lack of concentration, etc. You need to take care of yourself, remember that. We need to stay in as good shape as possbile, so we can enjoy the outdoors for many years to come.

Nice pictures
Unidentified plant is Rattle snake plantain.Good on cuts and abrasions.Pick a leaf squeeze it and roll it sideways at the same time will separate the leaf in two-top and bottom If you do it right it splits in half apply to your cut.
That puffball dried will take a spark but has to be really dry it was also sprinkled on a bleeding cut to act as a coagulant to stop bleeding.
I hear you on the sleep I work riding freight trains 24/7 got to keep on top of that Circadian rythm thing.

Great pictures. I worked deep nights for about 6 years. The transition from my days off to my work hours was a pain. Have you tried melatonin, I'd take it about an hour and a half before I went to bed.

Great pics Bushy...... for a point and shoot, as you describe it , the camera looks to be doing a damn fine job !

Sorry to hear ya feeling down, one day off is no good to anyone !!!:(:thumbdn:
