Is anyone out there? Here is a question. Are there any new Items that will be coming out? I don't mean different versions of already existing models, but all new designs. I for one would like to see a prouction version of the banana.

BH,
i totaly agree with you ,there is not enogh input on behalf of the EMERSON guys.i really like their knives and ernie but hey..the forum is dead as a graveyard.WAKE UP!!
we want to see new desighns, the production banana, some comments from ernie himself.
that will be cool and it will sell knives.
scorpio.

Hopefully they will look at this, and at least make a comment. I noticed a while back that emerson knives responded to 3 0r 4 threads all in one day, but I havn't heard from them since. This is one of the first boards that I check in the morning. I know that they are probably busy, but come on, at least once a week would be nice. I noticed that there was a question a while back about the 2 different liners in the Commander. I would really like to hear from emerson knives on this. I am going to pick a new one up in a few weeks, and would like to know what the difference from the first Serial numbered ones are. I used to have a satin finished one #138, and it had quite a thick liner, I held one at a show a couple of weeks ago, and it had considerably thinner liners, with what seemed like a thinner handle overall. Any comments would be appreciated.

I agree that their lack of participation in this forum is a major bummer. The only way something like this could work is with a lot of their participation. Look at the successful forums: HI, Spyderco, etc. In those cases, the owner is very, very active and everyone benefits.

I get the impression that Mary and Ernie are not really to into the whole internet thing. When you send an email to them, it takes at least 1 1/2 weeks to get a response. Sometimes they do not respond at all. They are very good over the phone though and they do make nice knives!

I agree with what you are saying here. I like Emerson made knives, and especially the Commander. But I would like to see quality control improved on theie knives. I would also like to find out more about the Commander Seal Knife, and if this knife will be available for civilian use. I was the one that posted about the different liners on the newest release Commanders. The quality control has improved on this latest release, or I just got lucky. There is a different liner on the latest Commander. I think that it is just a machining on the liner that if the liner walked all the way across the blade it would stop the liner from slipping off and closing the knife. OK Emerson, it is time for you to start getting involved with this forum. The interaction with people on this forum will pay you great dividends for years to come. Any replys welcome. Thanks, David

OK, I called Emerson and spoke with Ernie. He assured me that the problems that we are having with the Commanders are minute compared to the number that he has sold. He also said that any problems can be solved by sending the knives back to him for free repairs.

The new machining that you are seeing on the newer Commanders is for the detent and nothing more. The walking of the liner lock to the other side is part of the design. The harder you open the knife the more solid the lock up. This is not to say that the lock up is bad if you don't open it hard, it just travels farther. The liner will not slip off of the blade. The new machined detent is to take the ball bearing off of the liner lock thus leaving the liner lock to perform only one job, Locking the blade. All his knives will eventually made this way.

Ernie was very responsive to my questions but he did say that he does monitor the forums and that many negative responses have been made by the same people over the past several years.

I don't think he spends a lot of time on the forums because it seems to be a waste of time. This is my feeling about what was said and not a direct quote. I'm sure he will read this and set me straight.

After all is said and done my commander is still my best folder.

Jeffa - Interesting information. I'm sorry that Ernie feels that way. I agree that his production folders are of excellent quality; I have two and both are perfect.

People do have concerns about the length of time that the custom orders take (and the delays) and I wish he would address those on a frequent basis.

I hate to be my usual negative self. But I think that a maker needs to be receptive to the end users who point out flaws with there blades. I had a custom maker who made his locks the way that Emerson is now making the Commander the problem was it would not lock up safely unless you slammed it open. He was very receptive to my problem and was very anxious to make it right for me. Will Emerson do that when he doesn't even want to waste his time on his forum with those of us who have his knives. Also he might note that while spyderco, camillus and REKAT amongst others have forums they are not overwhelmed with repeat negative comments and they do seem to use them to better their products and they take an active interest in there supporters on the forum. I our own way we are the hardcore users of there products some makers are smart enough to figure that out. Many of my non knife nut friends have bought knives based on my opinions and advice. I bet that the same has happened to you guys too.

Interesting post. Wondering if Ernest wants to keep this post operating or just say the heck with it? Sure do like his knives, and respect the heck out his knowledge. Kind of a shame; it'd be cool to be able to chat with him online! I have no problems to date with the CQC7 I own, in fact it's one of my favorite blades. It's actually one of the knives that got me up to the "next level" of collecting. Oh well. I still like him.

I hope that no one took me wrong when I started this. I also like his knives, custom and production. I started this post because there is very little activity and I was hoping that it would get some people to discuss anything about Emerson's knives, maybe even Earnie. I am waiting on a clip point raven as we speak. At least since I posted this there has been some activity on this forum, I like coming here in the morning and reading something new. I hope this spawns some more conversation.
