Any of you guys watch this show? They just had an episode where a woman passed up over half a million dollars. I never did really believe the show was legit and that set it in stone! Donald trump wouldn't pass that much up, much less a regular person. All the contestants they have on there look and act like b grade soap opera actors.
Any forumites work for the outfit that produces the show? Maybe we can get some insider input. :D

I've seen this show a time or two and what I've wondered is this: what would they do if someone just decided to quite early on? "A hundred thousand dollars? Sure, I'll take that." But, there's fifteen more minutes of the show to go... maybe a tap dance number?

I've often wondered that about many gameshows before. It is very hard to believe that out of every gameshow I've ever watched, the play time is more or less the length of the episode.

On the UK version of Deal or No Deal, there has been times where the contestant has finished around 15 minutes early and then they just string out the process of opening the remaining boxes, getting would be deals from the banker, talking to the partner of the player etc...

Maybe it happens more often than we think, but not enough to realise what is happening? Still, if someone decided to take the first offer because they don't want to risk it, what happens for the next 45 mins?

This also brings up the question...Is "pro wrestling" real?.:D.:D.

Is it a live show or is it prerecorded & edited? Do they always have exactly one contestant per episode?

Even if it's a live show they do screen & coach the contestants....

Since they're recorded, and since one contestant's turn can span more than one show, I suspect they carefully pick and choose which contestants' rounds to show, and edit the actual footage to finish on time. I've noticed that you can sometimes predict whether a contestant will hit big money or screw up and end up settling for crumbs, all by watching how much time is left to the end of the show's time slot.

Never, EVER underestimate the abysmal stupidity of the average person. Especially when greed becomes a factor. I've seen people get greedy on that show and end up with something like $10. I remember a person on Wheel of Fortune, when presented with a clue of "king of the ro--", deciding the answer was "king of the roll". I kid you not. :D

It is all about greed, they turned down half a mil for a chance at 2 mil. Simple logic of greed, I believe it is true.

Greed and stupidity are the words, alright. I've seen that show several times, and I really like it. The people who need the money the most never get much, and the people who don't need it tend to win more. It's almost like a mirror. Sometimes it can all be luck, but most of the time being a winner or loser comes down to making good or bad decisions, recognizing and weighing the odds-the same things that shape their daily lives.
It kills me to see somebody throw away a lump of money that would be enough to totally change my life(and probably theirs), and end up with next to nothing.
Imagine how just winning enough to pay off your mortgage would let you do all kinds of things that you'd normally never be able to do.

I watch nearly every show the US show here in Canada. The whole show is driven by 'odds', so if the lady was offered half a million, it means that she had a 50/50 chance of getting one million dollars. There were two cases left, the one on the stage and the one she had chosen.

I just like the girls, Anya is cute, and Leyla is a party animal from Toronto!

Once you 'get into' the show, it is fun to make your own decisions as whether to carry on or take the money.

Howie Mandel is Canadian BTW.

The $64,000 Question ? In those days a new auto cost about $2,200 & a brick home $16,000.

The expose destroyed my trust in T/V eons ago.....
