Deal Spotting question

I just did a search for "deal spotting" and "posting links to other sites", and can't find an answer to this question. If someone asks "What is a good EDC knife", and I want to suggest the Benchmade Barrage, is it acceptable to post a link to the knife's page on the Benchmade.com website so everyone reading the thread can look at the knife and read its specifications? Specifically, this link...

http://www.benchmade.com/products/583-1

Thanks

Since Benchmade isn't really a dealer, it is OK to post that link. It is also OK to post a link to a paid Bladeforums Dealer member.

It's basically the exchange for sale by dealers area. Anyone in there is good to go. You don't need to take dealers images per se. There are lots of images all over the web, just google the name of the knife and use the image tags
, give credit to the place where you got the pic and it should be ok. It's a much better idea to learn how to embed and upload pictures than just slapping a blind link there.

Is it deal spotting if you link to a knife that is exclusive to that dealer? Since they are the only ones that sell it I don't think it's unfair competition or anything. It's annoying when people talk about a new Benchmade limited edition or something and don't say where to buy it.

If said dealer is a paid member here, it's ok. If they are not a paid member here, it's not ok.

Sans link, you can still mention the name of the knife. This is a knife chat board after all. Surely, even your semi-conscious readers can Google the name and find a valid link.
If you need to find the whereabouts of a special edition, exclusive run, etc., there's always the option of a quick email or PM.

That said, if it hadn't been for deal spotting 10+ years ago (SMKW and Spydercos), I might not be here. That purchase is what sucked me into this strange corner of the universe.
Of course, the rules were different back then.

Best idea. Give advice and let them google it on their own. C.Y.A. post a pic and copy and paste the specs. Leave the links for the google search page

Absolutely. I've seen a lot of deal-spotting by new guys with links to dealers I would never buy from. Just search for the knife name and you'll find best buys, known dealers, -- choices.

There is only one dealer with the LE Benchmades anyway, by now everyone should know where to go for them.
