Deal spotting VS. knife spotting

I am not exactly sure if we allow knife spotting. I know we don't allow deal spotting and I am having trouble defining the difference.

For example, if someone is looking for a knife, and maybe even a place to buy that knife -is it okay for us to provide a link to where it can be purchased? Would that be considered deal spotting?

I was under the assumption that deal spotting would be more along the lines of saying, "you can get this knife here at this-site.com for $X" as apposed to knife spotting, which would be, "Check this sweet knife out at this-site.com"

Or maybe we might recommend a site with great knife selection -like Ragnar and his scandinavian blades. We are not deal spotting are we?

Thanks for the help,

Max

The simplest and best way to address this issue is to contact the person making the request privately via email, PM or visitor message. It only takes a moment or two to accomplish.

This goes a long way toward preventing the appearance of shilling for a particular vendor.

Let's face it, many of us have done numerous transactions with various online sellers and it often results in friendship and even a sense of loyalty. It's natural to want to steer business to these folks.

Rather than clutter up the forums with recommendations of vendors who may or may not support this site as "dealers", it's best to handle this directly and avoid the problem altogether.

You are still encouraged to give evaluation of service (good or bad) in the "Feedback" section of this site as you feel appropriate.
