I'm just curious why S30V blades haven't made their way over to the custom shop. Buck is already making these blades for 110s.

Is there an agreement with Cabelas that the S30V knives will be exclusive to Cabelas?

Man, if it weren't for that weird blade logo, I'd already have an Alaskan Guide series 110.

I hated that logo tooo..

I took a razor blade to it and it came right off without any harm to the TiN coating.

I was fortunate enough to get an S30V blade on an old 110 when I sent it in for a blade swap very close to the time for their move to Idaho. They were out of BG-42 and they asked me if I would mind if they put an S30V blade on instead since they had some left over from Cabela's. I tripped over myself responding to them with a yes. :D

Lucky dog.

Good to know. Is it just a "stick-on" kind of thing? Anyone else remove the logo without problems?

Is there a reason to prefer S30V over the BG42?

The logo on the blade is just paint. (Look at it through a strong magnifier.) I experimented, and found that I could remove it with paint-removing solvents like acetone or methyl ethyl ketone ("MEK") if I was patient and rubbed a lot.

More rapidly, I could soften the paint and then shave it off with a utility knife blade held at a shallow angle, followed by a cleanup with the solvent. Then after wiping the blade with a slightly oily cloth, there was hardly any evidence of the logo.

I was careful to shave in the same direction as the grind marks on the blade, but the TiAN coating is so much harder than the utility-knife blade that it isn't likely to be marked anyway.

OK; I'm looking at -

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/purchase/products-found.jsp?_requestid=15761

ITEM: LF-516488 (or Item: QS-516488) PRICE: $59.99

The logo you're referring to is obviously the deers head...My question is, can the Titanium Aluminum Nitride coating be easily removed??? I don't like my steel hidden...

...but if it is unpolished under the coating, then it would be a job to get it back to the "ground finish" that the 420HC 110's have... :(

For me it's a personal preference although I have both steels on 110's. I don't use my knives in such an extreme manner to ever test the steel to really know which one would perform better is certain types of circumstances.
