??? These lasted a whole day? I'm set to remove the original handles on a couple of my HI's just to make room for some custom work I have in mind. These guyzr are conveniently stripped down & ready to go. Too bad I already have a villager WWII and two pen knives. These would be just right.... & cheap, too!

Being that the pen knife is soon to be on its way to me, any suggestions on how to mount it? I've never done anything like this, mind you. I thought about having a friend of mine who does this sort of thing as a hobby mount it in deer antler and make a leather sheath for it that carries horizontally.
Anyone think synthetic would be a better choice?

Putting a handle on is relatively simple, depending on what you want.

Get the blade. The rat tail tang is substantial.

Look it over, then ask again. I'll help as I can, as will others who are much more knowledgeable.

Re-think the horizontal carry. That's not a small knife. I like leather, but ymmv.

I get the feeling the size of the knife will take me aback. Do you think there'd be a way to safely mount it in a horizontal...ish manner?

I did two sirupates in leather, which I think is best material that is shockabsorbent. I wonder if you could cut up a bias-ply tire into washers for this. If someone wants to buy me that WWII blade I'm willing to try the experiment. :)

Wasn't thinking just safety, but also comfort and ease of use. These "small" ones have nine inch blades.

Wait 'til you see it. :)

I was aiming for wearing at my back, similar to the way a seax was historically worn. I think those blades tended to be a bit shorter as a rule, though. But I find wearing one vertically at my back to be a bit intrusive when I'm squatting or sitting. Of course, wearing it at my side vertically would alleviate that, but I think behind the back carry would be more discreet. Dunno, though. Any experience with small of the back carry in general?
As for mounting a knife in leather, how is this done? Like, with leather washers? Do you have any pictures? How is leather for longevity? I like the idea of shock absorbing and something that grips well. I also want a big handle, though, for a full grip. Teach me, sharks. Show me the path.

I like what you did with the kydex. If I could get something like that in the shape of a traditional scabbard, all I'd need is some sort of belt clip and I could wear it however I want.
edit: Does an expanded explanation exist of the synthetic handle that RockFarm made?

I tend to use bandolier rigs for my khukuri's . They are heavy. I think wearing one horizontally would be unwieldy and probably end up twisting your belt up. But I'm glad you liked the kydex. :)

A horizontal rig would certainly lose draw speed. At least compared to a frogless sheath that I slip under my belt. Usually that's my preferred way to wear it. I think it annoyed my teacher that I preferred wearing the khuk through my belt rather than suspended in a frog when it came to training.
Yeah, though. That kydex rig is boss. I think that's what I need when it's all said and done. Heatgun for the kydex I assume, and did you just drill holes for the rivets?

Heatgun for the kydex, and I drilled the holes. The kydex I used was .093,thick and heavy. In retrospect I think would've been better going with .060 to decrease the weight. Only stuff I had big enough was the .093.
You say you've received training with a khukuri?

Bando. It's sort of comical because I come from a city with a reputation for having good technique when it comes to fighting and empty hand/ stick forms, but very little khukri knowledge. Still managed to get some, though.
