the 18 inch 34 ounce villager fit and finish Deradhune by Tirtha kami was nice:)
look like a "astk-Lite" :)

I have never seen a Deradhune before. My ASTK is just under 32 Oz, but it is only 17 inches. So it really does look like an ASTK. Does anyone know what the difference is. Yangdu's comment that it is the best field knife is what she always said about the ASTK.

You know, just by the looks of it, the only difference seems to the ornate Shiva's Sword. I would probably have to hold them side by side in person to tell the difference, and even then it seems negligible. Maybe someone more knowledgeable might chime in?

Another was available a couple weeks ago and similarities with the Amar Singh Thapa Knife were noted. This one has changed to the Amar Singh Thapa Knife style handle so as far as I can see you are correct.

I can't beleive the Razor hasn't been spoken for yet, with the stag handle that thing is just amazing.....I wish I could strech my limited funds to cover it....

from this picture, it seams like the Dheradune has a wider edge than the astk, and it looks like the brass tubes around the handle rivets on the astk are missing:)
i think that the spine have straighter lines to :)
the astk have a more curved spine:)

That Dehradun khukuri looks pretty neat, I like the shape of the blade. Dehradun is a town in the foothills of the western Himalayas in India known for its longtime association with the military. During British rule, several old Gurkha Rifles regiments had their Regimental center there at one time or the other (2GR, 6GR), several others were in nearby hill towns (1GR in Dharamshala, 4GR in Bakloh, etc.), thus khukuris were/are made here. Today a number of modern Indian sword and knife manufacturers are based here (Windlass, etc.), including a number of manufacturers of the infamous el-cheapo lions-head pommel tourist khukuris.

Edit: Dehradun and the surrounding area also has a significant population of Nepalese ethnicity - a number of them being descendants of retirees from the various Gurkha regiments that decided to settle down near their old regimental homes rather than return back to Nepal. A large number of Indian-Nepalese from this area continue to serve in the armed forces of India.

Thought some folks might find the above of interest. Mods please feel free to delete this post if need be.

Here are some old military-type khukuris commonly acknowledged as being of the "Dehradun" style. Other slightly differing styles are also associated as being from here.
