Email sent on Bahadur. (yes - i want another one for a Christmas present for my Dad) 8^)

That Malla is just down right lovely! Shaila Kami has this blade just right!
Beautiful tight little bolster and an awesomely shaped Cho, that is nice and close to the bolster.
Not to mention that smoothly curved handle and blade.
WOW!!

Wow. That Malla is beautiful. Everything looks right on that rig -- length, minimal cho creep, and saatisal handles, but the weight is just too much IMO. 18" and 36 oz. comes out to 2 oz./inch. I would've bit a few years back, but I no longer want the bruisers. Still a nice knife though.

I was super lucky today . . . .I've been hoping to score a Bahadur for my dad for weeks. I was in a training class today without access to a computer except on breaks. I came out for a break, checked my computer, saw Yangdu post - and emailed as fast as I could. Perfect timing!

He is going to be so excited . . .

When he saw me take down a small tree with it and then field dress and quarter a whole deer without ever stopping to sharpen it - he was sold!

The Malla looks like a morph of M-43 & Dheradune with a fantastic work on the handle.

The curved handle together with the rounded spine will ensure plenty of fun in chopping. :D

Jay,

That's what I was thinking. If you shaved the ring off, it'd be an M-43. A heavy one, but still the same shape. It even has the old style short handle with a nice curve. If the Cho was a bit smaller and the blade hammered down a few ounces, it would make an ideal rig. I really like the shape. The handle looks very comfy. One thing I don't like is the sheath though. Take care.

The curved handle will lessen your wrist fatigue during chopping as the fulcrum sets forward.

Cho is what makes Malla special. The quintessential HI Malla has a deeper Cho:

Another reason to get Steve's sheath.:)

That was my first impression as well. What the first photo shows well is that the proportion of handle to blade is very similar to what the traditional M43 is like. It gives the appearance of LOTS of blade and a little handle (making up only about 1/3 of the overall length.) Where in contrast the newer ones take about an inch and a half from the blade and add it to a massive tang and handle and the result feels more like an overbuilt CAK than an M43. I thought hard about pulling the trigger on that Malla but then saw the weight and what appears to be a very meaty tang & handle and knew it wouldn't fit me.

My hope of finding a traditionally sized kukri is dimming and my wallet shrinking.

A sirupati or a chainpuri at about 16" or 18" OAL is traditional IMO. Any model with a chiruwa handle tends to appear overbuilt lately at the handle and spine.

Ordered the malla. I'll try to report on the handle, might have to make a few minor mods to it.

I probably should have been more descriptive. What I meant to say was a traditionally "sized" kukri, not just a traditional model. My interest is pretty much limited to 5 models. The M43, Bonecutter, Ganga Ram, BAS and the ASTK, with the M43 being the one I like the most. Nothing else really tickles my fancy.
