Oh man that teardrop!

Is there an echo around here?

And that gray horn AK, be still my heart!

Can that teardrop do stand in as an exceptionally lethal boomerang too? :) Yikes - that's purty, but I especially like the Kumar Ang Khola.Too soon for me though to try another but this would be the one, to my way of thinking.

I'm excited to see the Samsher!
The AK is gorgeous. Made by Kumar, white metal fittings, GREY horn handle - and the karda and Chakma look nice too!
I bet it swings and sings outstanding.

That AK is a quiet masterpiece. It's not showy...it's perfect. Simply stunning.

Uh! Did yall notice the Samsher? Thats a Thamar Samsher:eek: At that price id buy it site unseen if i didnt already have one. Im tempted to buy another at that price anyway? Dang some nice stuff today for sure!
Heres mine from the very first Samsher shipment! Awesome blade! Looks kinda like a Curved spine only badder! Sorry Bookie ;) sorry Bawanna ;) Rest them Curved spines:D

For your reference. This blade has a thicker edge than even the Ang Khola. In my opinion that makes it the strongest edged chopper in the entire HI lineup! Great knife!

Oh..../ edit: stwm saw it! Grab it dude! Awesome blade! Prolly in my top five of all HI blades  Note the Thamar shaped Chitlangi handle and severe drop!

Note the double peened buttplate:thumbup:

Yeah I went and looked it up... I knew ndog? mentioned that now that I was getting a TC I would be cursed and need the whole Yek, Dui, Tin, Samsher set. You're a great salesman, in this case, a little too good!

Honestly I would've probably died wanting it but a little USPS snarl delayed the TC from coming so my heart is still with another. If I had Thamar's TC in my hand I'm sure the Samsher would've found its way home. Thank God for small miracles!

Nice snag David. It reminds me of a more traditional M43.

All of the amazing blades popping up here lately....

I'm hoping some miracle happens and I get that AK. 15", Kumar, the special handle is a bonus. I was thinking I'd get a 15" CAK or regular AK... I'm intrigued by how it would handle vs. my 18" big heavy chopper M43. I hope to see the handle in person someday, I'm sure the photo doesn't do it justice.

For now I wait by the door for the triangle box on its way like a dopey dog waiting for dad to come home from work, smiling and wagging my tail.

What do you all do with your Tin Chirra? I'm hoping it speaks to me and tells me it wants to be a retirement gift for my Dad.

Stwm, might have been me to mention the set recently, but it was definitely ndog who turned the Trifecta into a 4-piece set with the Smasher. I've only got a Dui so I need to work on that next year. It gets occasional use clearing trails and such, but it's primary use is demonstrating to layfolk how proper fullers are supposed to be done :)

PS your 18" M-43 may feel like a heavy chopper now, but the M-43 is actually meant as a general purpose model and has a relatively thin edge profile. Even my Dui blows it out of the water in pure chopping, but in overall versatility I find the M-43 wins every time.

Does..not...compute. It has a great deep/wide? blade! Looks great.

You are right, it was you that turned me on to the set! For me the TC with its three fullers (not having seen it) is the pinnacle of forging skill!

I've only got a Gelbu to compare the M43 to so I'll have to get some hands-on time with your 'superchopper'.

Maybe next September I'll be out in Boston area again, I hope! I went to the Commonwealth Pen Show this year, it rocked!

I'm trying to learn more about edge geometries and blade profiles - it's going somewhat well. Working on reprofiling my Mora from saber grind to full-height convex!
(my kingdom for an extra-extra-coarse diamond stone)...

I don't know much about chopper geometry - I'd assume something vaguely axelike with a fat wedge spine, and a thin hollow-ish front is best? So much to learn! The M43 is holding up really well with the use/abuse it's getting. It's about time for it to get a little sharpening/edge repair...

Well now I'm kicking myself for not seeing the Samsher. Great photos ndog!

Ditto me, guess I'm kind of simple and pictures do more for me than words.

Bawanna be needing a Samsher, a Thamar Samsher................................sigh.

Thats a Thamar Chirra behind the CS in the first pic. You can see the similarity in the shape. They are great choppers as well but due to being very light they are not optimal for heavy chopping. I say they are similar to the KLVUK but more traditional shape. Grats on that Tin Chirra. Definitely one of my favorites.

I sure hope ya like it or im in deep doo doo aint I? I think you will. Its a little lighter in total weight than a big 20" AK for example but is an awesome chopper. If you could imagine an AK built to the shape of one of Thamars Chirras. I think it was made for lopping of heads if ya ask me:eek:

Hey stwm. I got some from DMT and man they are nice! They are a bit pricey tho so prepare to pay almost the price of a Khukri for one. I have a stack of four of them from extra course to extra fine and there is nothing better for removing metal (cept power tools). They say you can use them dry as well which is what I do but they cut faster wet because you dont have to wipe them clean all the time. They will put you back about a hundred semolians each but well worth it. They are flat to several decimal places so you can put a nice sabre grind on something if needed. Watch out for the cheaper ones. I have a few of them too. I got one cheapo that only has enough diamonds on the edges and the middle barely cuts. If you want something cheap that works pretty dang good for just hogging off metal get you a $20 8" lapping wheel for lapidary work. I cut them up with my band saw and make several hand shaped pieces out of them for getting into tight spaces like cho or recurved areas if needed for reprofiling. PM me and ill send you a link to the ones I buy.
