The 12" Siru can be the hiker's dream. When sharpened up nicely, it'll give you the edge of a standard camp knife, yet retain a bit of the choppiness of a khuk. It rides light, batons well, and gives you the confidence of packing an HI product without pulling down your pants when worn on a bet. My wife has one, and loves it:D

Jake, the 12" Siru is the first khuk I bought, last month. I'm giving it to my wife for her birthday this weekend. I completely agree with you. I hope she feels the same way. I think she may want to trade it for my 10" BDC. I hope not.

That's great:) I hope she enjoys it. However, i too would be worried about my BDC (if I had one) around my wife. Those are awfully "cute";)

I actually bought the siru for my wife when we were in college some time back. There had been a rash of reports about a guy following the ladies to their cars in the parking lots and approaching them as soon as they sat down in the car as well as a deadly attack on some poor girl the dorm building over from where my future wife was living. 2003 was a pretty scary year at Western Kentucky:(

I figured a 7-8" blade honed razor sharp flashing in the parking lot lights might be a pretty good deterrent. I mean, pepper spray is one thing, but a long dangerous "tooth" triggers a primal fear in us. She kept it right in the door compartment at the ready. Thank God she never needed it for such an occasion, but it went on to lead a peaceful life as a camp knife:)

Correct. I have seen many men fight back after pepper spray. It didnt matter they couldnt see. I doubt they would have after tasting the steel of a Siru. During my 25 years active duty Army as an Infantry soldier. 17 years spent outside of the USA, unconventional, my main fear was my family and loved ones, home in the USA, were in greater danger of getting hurt than I was. I am grateful yours and mine have been safe so far.
