Looks like the first Ganjawal that HI has made. The early offerings all came from Shop 1 and haven't been offered again until now. Verrry interesting.

Well, she says Dharan Kami, not Shop 1. Of course I am not as up on my history as you are Rick, are they one in the same? I have a Shop One Ganjawal, I have posted pix of it so folks could help me figure that part out (and I think it was you who told me too). I love the thing and the little tools and the tinder pouch that even has some old, crinkly tinder paper in it just makes it all the more dear to me. The scabbard is a work of art too IMO.

I'm guessing that Dharan is one of the newer kamis that have come aboard. From all the info that I was able to find, the Ganjawal was only offered by HI while they were dealing with Shop 1, another khuk supplier has the same model. After the setup of Shop 2 to BirGorkha, Bill said he didn't plan to offer it anymore since it was a slow seller whenever asked about the Ganjawal. I could be totally wrong since there is a BIIIG hole in my reading from the past to the present. Maybe they did make some or perhaps some were special ordered. To the best of my understanding, this is the first Ganjawal to come out of BirGorkha. If anyone can shed more light onto this, please do.

The leather on the scabbard is specially processed, too, IIRC. I think that was another drawback to Bill's offering it.

The Ganjuwal is probably made by a kami from Dharan, a major city in eastern Nepal. Like the old villager models from long ago, it is not an H.I. made piece and may not carry a warranty. You'd have to ask Auntie to be sure.

The Ganjwal is made by Dharan Kami. Dharan Kamis does not work for Birgorkha Khukuri Industry.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Yangdu!

E-mail sent on Ganjwal! Looks handy.

did you get a chance to fiddle with mine while you were here?
They really are handy little pieces of kit! I think you're gonna really like it.

Yangdu, it occurred to me that you can increase your sales volume by offering more blades for sale, like the CAK project blade shown here. I'm sure many of us(myself included) would love to by a genuine HI villager blade and make our own handles for them.

I second that. I would buy the one offered here right up if I had the funds :grumpy:

Warty, I'll let you know what I think when it gets here! Kinda a Nepalese SAK, isn't it? I didn't check out yours when I was visiting. Curious, I'm sure it would have stuck out.....:D

Pala looks happy here. How is he doing? Well, I hope.
HI sure flies in the face of the mass production knife companies and their claims that they can't compete if they don't sell cheap Chinese garbage. HI is proof that people who know knives WILL pay more for quality.
