and THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is what a Himalayan Imports rat-tail tang looks like.

Blade designed to last through generations of handles, and maybe, owners.

Which is why my opinion is chiruwa handles really only offer an advantage by adding more weight to the handle, which makes a better counter-balance to a long heavy blade.

H.I.'s hidden tangs are nearly as wide as the blade (at the hilt)! I just don't see that breaking.

I actually prefer rat tail tangs, because you can have a better chopper with less weight, as the weight is more forward, in the blade, and you get less shock in the handle than with a full tang. Is a rat tail as strong? No. But it is strong enough!

All just my opinion, of course.

Are the kamis still short of supplies for handles?;)

Well said there AC, pretty much agree right down the line

Nice looking Khukuri's, The Rat Tail Tang Is Unique and Look's Nice, But I think It would be very awkward to use because of the to the Piont Taper and would be hard to get a secure Grip, And could easily slip from sweaty hand's,

You're supposed to put your own handle on that one.

Thank's for the Info. Karda, It all slipped right by me, I thought I was seeing Wood, Now that you cleared that up, It's a Great Idea, That way you can do your own Scale's, I Like That !

What you were seeing is the residue from the Laha (traditional nepali epoxy) that the original handles are glued on with. Every now and then Yangdu gets one in damaged or they sometimes crack in the dry nevada climate, She tends to get the handles stripped off and puts these up for sale to us woodchucks as project knives. It is a great idea, she gets a blade sold and we get to experiment. :D

Excellent:thumbup:
I have a 12" pen and I just love the Dickens out of it.:D
It is so light in the hand, yet still very stout when it chops very hard and seasoned driftwood we collect. For such a large and yet small knife I don't even realize it's on my belt.

Sweeeet, Andy is going to handle a beautiful AK:thumbup::eek::thumbup:
Your handles are really fine. You'll do the Kamis proud;)
