e-mail sent on 16.5 inch 23 ounce chiruwa horn handle Villager WWII by Bura. Extra sharp blade. $75 YBB.
Maybe it's the first... I figure if it hasn't been bought by now, it's meant for me.
I was thinking of holding off for a wood handle, but I think that's a slippery slope to go down... "I don't have that shade of a neem handle." "Wow that's a really different grain on *that* neem handle." "Sure I have two 16.5" WWIIs, but I don't have two with neem handles." **SHUDDER***
So what is the best method of khukuri display in a cardboard box? Like the one I'll be living in eventually...
P.S. I've been looking at exotic materials for alternative handles... Has anyone got a knife (or anything else) with the mammoth/mastodon ivory handles... From the way the ivory takes colors from the ground there are some blue and white pieces that come up from time to time that would look really nice on one of the silver bolsered sets. If you can work it yourself, the african blackwood is nice and the prices aren't too outrageous currently (about the price of a villager for a piece big enough to do the kuk and tools). There is also this - though I didn't read enough to see how durable it is...
http://www.ancientwood.com/ancientwood_kauri_story.htm From the earlier forum articles, it seemed too difficult to send materials in, but there have been recent pieces with american materials. Has something changed to make sending a custom material more feasible (except the dangerous to work hardwoods of course)?
P.P.S. That pen knife is a real beauty. It has a real classic look to it that makes me think of pulp novels and 1920s/30s/40s action and adventure stuff....
