Yangdu Clearance Special continues...

If you've been holding out for a good workhorse, now's the time to cash in. None of these are frail mistresses....even the Gelbu and Malla have a 3/8" thick spine. All have hidden through-tangs that are peened and each one passes both the "magnet test" and the "ohm-meter" test.

SOLD - - Gelbu special - wood, 20 oz., 18.25 inches, 1.1 oz./in., S.B., 10/10 rig - Take it for $90 shipped - and that's 40% off store price.

(balance is 2.75" in front of the bolster)

18 inch WWII - wood, 27 oz., 18 inches, 1.5 oz./in., = Take it for $105 shipped - and that's 30% off store price.

(balance is 3.75" in front of the bolster)

DOTD0428001.jpg

WWII - horn, 23 oz., 18 inches, 1.3 oz./in., L.B. =Take it for $105 shipped - and that's 30% off store price. (There's a tiny spot of rust on the tip - but not to worry, I'll take it off at the buffer before it's shipped. So this 9/10 will be 10/10 when it flies.)

(balance is 3.25" in front of the bolster - and balances almost perfectly vertical; has a rounded spine, then tapered spine after the bend)

SOLD - - Malla - horn, 24 oz., 18 inches, 1.3 oz./in., S.B. = Take it for $115 shipped - and that's 35% off store price.

(balance is 3" in front of the bolster - and balances almost perfectly vertical; has a flat spine)

SOLD - - Ang Khola - wood, 25 oz., 18 inches, 1.4 oz./in., L.B. = Take it for $125 shipped - and that's 30% off store price.

(balance is 3.25" in front of the bolster)

I am trying to make this as similar to Yangdu's Deals as possible - to keep things running smoothly, but naturally, there have to be a few changes. I will be collecting all payments and returning a lump sum to Yangdu when she returns. I am not benefiting monetarily from this. Just doing my best to help H.I. stay afloat, keep the kamis busy, and reduce some inventory.

If you have ANY questions, please feel free to EMAIL me. Bear with me...I'm sure there are going to be kinks in the system that need working out.

I'll update this first post as items are sold.

This is being done with approval of the HI forum moderators.

*Nice* AK there...

All would make a fine addition to a collection!

.

I second frogfish.. I just rounded out last week by getting a chiruwa ,15 " AK for myself and a 12 " ,baby dankutte for a couple of friends.. my wife is not a happy camper ..

Five lovely khuks, and especially the AK. Fine, stout blades!

(But, Nasty, I thought your reply would have something to do with ice cream and rootbeer.)

Unless I'm mixed up, and that's always possible, isn't the AK Wood handled?

I think HI prices are edging upwards. It was inevitable. Gas is 2 bucks a gallon. A burger is 6 bucks. And they want 500 bucks for a plain jane Amercian Bolt action rifle.

Those are Deals Of The Day, not blems- not a thing wrong a'tall. Nice knives.

Ugh, I want the Gelbu Special, but just had to pay $260 to get construction debris hauled away....

Ad Astra :(

Jeeze, i have more than enough khuks to do anything under the sun, but i just like 18" WWII models for a working khuk. I love my AK Bowie and my Rose has stolen my heart. The kerambit makes me feel safe in the back streets. My PK is the best camp knife ever. My GRS can fell the mightest tree, but by God the 18" WWII is my favorite actual khuk shape. Anyone that is looking for a great all around user for the back yard to the back country should snap one of those beautiful blades up. I'm going to have to get me another one day. One day after i buy furniture and blinds and a tv and a new car...sigh.

LOL - yes, the last one is supposed to be "wood". *groan*

It's interesting - I've heard a few people say that "prices have gone up".

Y'all have been way too spoiled by the deals lately, I guess. None of these are blems, they are all nearly perfect.

The Gelbu is normally $150 - at $90 it's a 40% discount for a perfect knife.
The WWII is normally $145 - at $105 it's a ~30% discount for a perfect knife.
The Malla is normally $175 - at $115 it's a ~35% discount for an outstanding model.

The only misfit is the AK - which honestly, I don't know why Yangdu priced at only $5 off for a perfect knife.

Tell ya what - I'll take matters into my own hands and knock $15 off to make it $125 instead of full price = $145. (Hopefully Yangdu won't shoot me) That's now a ~15% discount for no reason except good fortune (for the buyer :D).

We've all grown a little deal-complacent, perhaps....Before Bill passed on, Yangdu was running the show and offering once-in-a-lifetime deals to "move inventory" and pay medical bills. Those deals/prices are probably gone forever.

Personally, the reason I accepted this in the first place was that I knew Yangdu's transition to running the shop alone was a rough one. She's not the salesman Bill was (nor am I). I kinda see these as "keep the boat afloat" deals....not "dirt-cheap-steals". When Yangdu gets back, things are going to change. It's inevitable. Who knows what the future holds. My wish is for things to continue smoothly as normal - which means higher quality, more variety and good prices.

Here's to Himalayan Imports.

Dan, I can't imagine Yangdu shooting you for the help you've given.

I've observed sometimes the AK's keep a slightly higher price- but they should also weigh more if so, imho.

Spoiled? Yes, we're spoiled. I am, anyway. But prices do inevitably rise.
Don't mean that HI blades aren't still a bargain.

Can't find a thing wrong with it, but if Yangdu says so, I've learned to listen"

I agree with Dan on "higher quality, more variety and good prices" and hope for everyone's sake: customers, kamis, and forumites that HI will continue on. And when HI continues, Uncle Bill and Rusty will never be forgotten.

I was thinking of asking Yangdu if HI would do more special orders, but will let that sit until she gets settled.

Remember the situation in Nepal. We're lucky that we're getting any product at all.

I never had anything by Sanu or Durba or that stuff back then. But I think compared to when I first started getting HI khukuris that the quality is way better.

I haven't heard any complaints of horn handles cracking. Compared to my first khuks from HI the ones I have bought in the last 9 months or so have been way sharper out of the box, no handle cracks, and way, way better tempering.

If Yangdu can check in here I would assume her ability to give feedback to HI would be even better than Bill's, given her command of the language. So I am optimistic about HI.

These will stay up through the weekend if needed. Thanks for the support guys. These brutes will find their owners soon enough.

With all due Respect, Dan, it is far too soon to say Yangdu is not the salesman...girl, Bill was. She hasn't had time!! She will. It's my intuition she has a more critical eye than Bill.

As for putting in one of Bill's pet phrases, well, I doubt that will make or break these sales. You wanna have some fun and amuse yourself? If you have any specials left after this- Invent some new phrases!!! We'd all get a kick out of that!

Things are going to be fine; things are fine. Thanks again for helping Yangdu and offering these sales.

This has been a stressful time and seeing these sales, like old friends to our eyes, have helped.
