The suspense writer Dean Koontz has one of his novels that was made into a movie being released tomorrow, called Odd Thomas. I like the books, one thing that Dean Koontz never liked to do is a series, but with this character he couldn't help it.
I did not know this was made, so maybe it's not too good, but I'll be checking it out tomorrow if the rental store has it :)

I saw the movie on pay ver view. from a 1-10 scale, I'd give it a 5. Nothing bad, but nothing great either.

The Odd series of books are the first ones I've really liked of his. I am in the middle of the 3rd one, and was just thinking that it would be neat to see them made into movies. I'll have to keep an eye out for this. I have a hard time seeing how the 1st person narrative will translate into a movie, though. All of the humor comes from his self-deprecating comments and ironic statements.

Of the ones I've read I also enjoyed the Odd Thomas series. Also I've listened to them as well and the reader did a very good job too.
Being laid up I'll have to get one of my daughters to rent it for me.

I don't usually read those types of books but always did like Koontz. When I got my Kindle I found some of Odd Thomas at the local library and really enjoyed them. I'll wait for the movie on Amazon Prime or Netflix.

Yah he has a good sense of humour about him in these, sending my wife to the dvd rental store today to see if they have a copy to rent ;)

Ok, just saw it, for the folks that have read the book, as it often turns out, the book is better, the movie kept to a lot of the book so it wasn't bad, but as David above gave it a 5, I'd not argue that rating or try to increase it.

Parts of the book I did miss in the movie but, they can't put it all in there I guess so some cutting needed to be done.

I always thought his Christopher Snow books were way better than Odd Thomas...that being said I'd rather see a mediocre Odd Thomas book than watch them ruin Fear Nothing or Seize the Night.

I've read dozens of Koontz books. The movie adaptations have never really been all that great for me, but they are fun to watch after reading one of his novels. I need to get on to his Frankenstein series. Heard they are really good.

The surprise ending was pretty good though, Gary. Even thought I'd read the book, the story was a little fuzzy in my mind, so the ending took me by surprise. (Don't want to give it away to those who haven't seen the movie yet)

Yep, I know what you mean, don't want to give out any spoilers either ;)

Anyone else read the Frankenstein series? My wife bought me a couple of those when I started reading the Odd books. I haven't gotten around to those ones yet, so wondering if it's of use to collect the rest of 'em.

I thought it was a little better than a 5 but then again I generally like the strange ones. My guess is that it wasn't in wide release because of the subject matter.

Watching it again, in not as hyped up mood :) I'd also bump it up a little more too, expectations can do that to you.

Myself I imagined the botachs being more like the dark thingys in the movie Ghost, so that was a difference for me

Also I was surprised to see the guy that played The Mummy in the movie too, Arnold Vosloo, a bit of a comedic part for him more of a cameo scene.
