Ok, school me. What's the advantage of a mid-lock over the existing 501/503 (full-lock?)?

So easy to use one-handed.

I'm not overly hung up on opening a knife one handed, but after I've cut something, I like being able to manipulate my knife with one hand.

Mid-locks make that very easy to do.

Gotcha. Learn something new everyday :)

I’ve learned how to open and close a back lock 501, 55, 110 and 112 with one hand and do it safely even some slip joints. After a while it became natural and I don’t even have think about it.

It sounds neat, but I'm afraid it would introduce some lock rock into what is currently a pretty solid lockup. I can open/close it one handed too. To close, I just spin it around and my thumb is on the lock.

This I don't understand. The One mid lock I have seems really awkward to close one handed. I must be doing something wrong. With the regular back lock like on the 110 closing comes so natural, I don't even have to think about it.

O.B.

A mid lock 501... wouldn't that be a 532? They are about the same size.

I think the 532 is bigger and it's not a regular production item.

Thanks for the "spin around-thumb" idea. I'm gonna start trying that! I have a bunch of mid-locks and none of them have rock. But yes, I wouldn't want that to happen either.

Interesting. I find mid-locks so natural. I just slide my fingers up a bit. My middle finger rests on the tang and my index finger puts a tiny bit of pressure on the spine while my thumb depresses the lock.

For the record, in no way am I anti-tail lock, I'd just like the option of a mid-lock. :)

I agree 100%. I can open and close a 110 1 handed no problem.

I figure if I say it long enough, one day it might happen. Wishful thinking I know. :D;):thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The 532 and 501 are not the same but very similar in size I would say getting someone like @skblades to work on a nice somewhat economic, the 532 is usually a tad pricey, variant in some nice steels like 440C or 154CM would be one of the best options for what you want and I support it.

A 532 in 440C w/ Paperstone handles for something unique and probably as inexpensive as one can hope for with a 532.
