Dear Buck,

Please do your customers and collectors a big favor...

When you put together your next catalog, how about indicating in some fashion, which products are MADE IN THE USA and which ones are IMPORTED, and from where?

One extra column in your "Product Matrix" or preferably a notation in the item description page.

I don't have a problem with many imported knives, but it depends where they come from. What I DO have a problem with is "hidden" surprises.

I was not pleased today when a certain new model Buck knife arrived that I thought Surely came from the "north" but instead came from the "east" !..... A nicely done knife but I must say if I had known it was imported, and from where, I would have at least waited until I'd seen one "in the flesh" before buying it.

All I'm asking is a "Full Disclosure" in the pages of your catalogs.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

I'm curious, what kind of "hidden surprises" are you talking about?

I suppose Buck could indicate the country of origin of each knife in their catalogue, but if it's made to comply with Buck's quality standards and is fully covered by their warranty, does it really matter?

OK. I tried to make my feelings clear regarding full disclosure. To be more specific: "TIAWAN" stamped on the tang of a $90.00 knife.

It really does matter to a lot of people and for them, being open about it makes a big difference... It all comes down to honesty and one's freedom of choice.

Hi BBB4U! Sorry you were disapointed. Finding out that your new knife was made in another country can be quite a shock! I know, it's happened to me too. ;) But, I figure that if it's from a Good company and of good quality, it doesn't matter all that much.

Thanks for sharing your view and letter with us.

I will forward this thread to our Upper management. I can understand your point perfectly.
All products regardless of origin are held to the same standard. Overseas products are fully inspected before their release.

As long as we're chiming in on the next catalog, PLEASE ditch those goofy, confusing categories such as "everyday," "hunting & fishing," "outdoor," etc. Clearly, one man's "everyday" knife is another man's "hunting & fishing" knife, and one man's "outdoor" knife is another man's "everyday" knife, and so forth. Even as a big Buck fan, these categories frustrate me when I'm searching your site for a model  so I can imagine the confusion that more-casual browsers face.

Hey guys,

Our Taiwan knives are made well.

That being said,

BUY AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Accept no substitute.

Thank God, 100% of our tactical line is made right here in the USA.

Would someone from Buck be willing to post a list here on the forum of all the Imported models?

I am especially curious about the Rush.

Thanks.

I agree it would be nice to always know exactly what your getting..But Buck isn't alone on this. Boker does'nt tell you either..You try explaining going from German steel to Argentinian steel..LOL
Now some do tell you, but in different ways..
Gerber does it (they put "INTERNATIONAL" on the logo)
Smith & wesson & Winchester put R.O.C (republic of china) on the reverse side of the tang stamp.. Case puts Germany on some, but never got any of thier cheapies...yet

And yes the Rush is USA all they way, and it is super sweet!!!!!

Since more and more American manufacturers are outsourcing more of their products, I'd like to see Buck step forward and print in their catalog exactly where each knife is made. Nothing to hide, I'd just prefer to buy Buck since I feel the quality of the original manufacturer is better than and contract source.

You know the knife has its country of origin stamped right on the blade.

I'll try to get a list up here of our knives built in Taiwan, there are only a few that I know of.

Josh

Josh,
Sure Would Like To See That List.

Hope You Would Be Kind Enough To Include The Ones Made In China And Anywhere Else Buck Is Importing From.

I Bought A 303 Cadet This Evening At Walmart....made In China.
Didn't Even Realize It 'til I Got Home. From Reading Posts Here I Had Thought The 300 Series Would Continue From The Usa.

Must Admit, It's A Beautiful Piece Of Work-- Dark Wood- Grained Handles, Brass Liners And Mirror Polished Blades And Very Sharp.

I Know These Are Being Built To Buck's Specifications But Could You Elaborate On The Quality Of The Steel?

Thanks,
Dan L.

Oh --
I Paid The Same Price That I Paid Last Year For The Poly Pearl Usa Cadet At Walmart.

I'll try to find out for you. I don't deal with our mass merchant stuff, just the tactical line. I am surprised that we have a knife made in China, I know some of the boxes and tins are, but the knives are either USA or Taiwan. I could be wrong, as I said I am not in that realm.

Josh

"China" printed above the barcode on the box and "china" stamped on the sheepsfoot tang.

Thinking about returning the knife to Walmart.

As Jeff attested to earlier, we make a careful selection to where an item will be built, and the underlying qualification is anything with the Buck name on it has to exhibit Buck quality.

We compete in some arenas where quality is king instead of price and we compete in arenas where price is all that matters. As a longstanding family owned company and brand we do have minimum performance standards that must be met or a product will not be sold.

There have been many conversations I have had with my father based on his discomfort with importing. We agreed that as long as it was Buck quality it was ok. Fit, Finish, Sharp and heat treated correctly. We have sent engineers to our partners in Asia, both China and Taiwan, because the prototypes and pilot runs were not meeting our specs. With proper fortitude we can provide a very good knife at a very economical price. We are not interested in the $5 per dozen stuff...

CJ,

I have 3 questions for you.

1. Could You elaborate on the steel quality of the China 303?

2. Will Buck be handling any warranty issues with the Imports?

3. Will Buck start disclosing which knives are imported in future catalogs?

Thanks,
Dan

I can answer the 1st 2

1. Could You elaborate on the steel quality of the China 303?
The Steel is 420 Hc Equivilent, Rockwells are coming it at 58-59 R'c'

2. Will Buck be handling any warranty issues with the Imports?
All Imports have the same warrenty as our other products. 100% Lifetime warrenty

I'll let CJ take the other one :)

All Imports go through my Department and meet Buck's Daily Quality standards that we hold in our own shop.
