I am having reservations toward that package of handles for it..can you tell me what you think about them?

Well,

They are fairly priced for what they are...;) And, they do improve the handling qualities of the knife.

They certainly do not fit the knife as closely as the Grivory scales on the large BK knives. And neither do the Delrin scales on the new Tweeners.

They are about the only engineering QC flaw I have seen in Beckers lately. I hope KABAR is going to improve the fit . I also hope they do not plan on changing the Grivory scales on the big knives as they are the BEST fitting injection molded knife scales I have ever seen.

My mold making/casting experience tells me someone did not get them memo about heat shrink tolerances in the Delrin injection molding process.fitting injection molded knife scales I have ever seen. Frankly, I would rather pay $20 for ONE set of Eskabar scales and would settle for just a black set in the Tweener box, if they were the same overall quality as the large Grivory units..

The good news is the sheaths on the new models are excellent.:)

That's good to hear, I am waiting patiently for the tomars shop to carry the 16, one for myself and one for my wife... Thanks man for the heads up.

As far as them fitting the knife tightly, I'm sorry Jim62 but mine fit like they came from the factory with the knife in between them. You may have a bum set. These scales are WAY better than a simple cord wrap, and also they allow you to strip the whole knife without having to worry about moisture retention from cord wrapping causing corrosion on your handle. They feel very ergonomic and silky. Frankly, I can't say anything bad about them! I love mine! And for the price? "Forget about it"

I doubt mine are a "bum set" as they all come from the same mold.;)

Look at your knife. You've stripped the paint- which is pretty thick.. That explains the difference in the fit.

On the knife I tried them on (a brand new, recent production BK-14 in the slip covered box)the fit was well undersized of the knife. Same as on my BK16 and 17. And it's simply not that same level of fit as the Grivory scales on the large knives, which is my point.

Dang that's a pic that sells em' right there!! What did you do for your patina?

Two seperate rounds. The first one was lime slices layered over it with some sriracha hot sauce striped on the blade, the second round was Worcestershire sauce soaked paper towels with some mustard on the blade. Each round went for about an hour: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/938101-Getting-the-14-ready-(PIC-HEAVY)

Jim62 pointed out that the fact that I stripped my 14 might have made the scales fit better. It IS possible I guess...so buy the scales and if they don't fit, strip your 14!! The 14 looks nice stripped IMO. Even though the patina does look cool to me I PRIMARILY added it to give my knife some corrosion resistance. If you click to my thread you'll see I didn't quite sand all of the coating off of the handle, this was on purpose as to leave some rust protection on where the scales would cover. I don't disbelieve Jim62 that his scales didn't fit, but in my case they did and I haven't heard anyone else report this problem: so for about 15 bucks, what do you have to lose?

My scales fit the knife handle along the sides fine. But then again, it impossible for them not to as long as the screws are snugged tight, whether the coating is removed or not.

My problem was around the outline of the handle. The fit simply was well undersized compared to the Grivory scales I have on the other large BK models I have.

And Like I said, they are fairly priced for what they are..

Ah I see what you mean Jim. Personally I kind of just expect this with scales for a neck knife, they don't come all the way to the edges of the tang but for me that is a non-factor, they still add a lot to the ergos of this knife and improve the comfort of use when added. The izula scales suffer this same 'problem'. I could see how this would bother some people but personally it does not bother me.

Rogue.. Exactly..

I guess Becker/Kabar set the bar pretty high with the fit of the Grivory scales which still amaze me.

It went from cool little camp toy to daily user with those scales. Well worth the $16ish for them.
