Hey Jeff, Shon, Mike, and All you Rat fans,

My second or third post on BF was about which TOPS knife to get for a hard use fixed blade knife. Some wise man said something along the lines of "No matter what TOPS knife you choose, I almost guarantee you will get a Rat Cutlery RC4."

Several months, posts (lots of which were talking up RAT products), and knowledge gained after... I finally received an RC4 for Christmas.

Let me tell you, that The RC4 is absolutely everything that everyone hypes it up to be. It was extremely sharp out of the box, well, package :), its fit and finish is fantastic, the sheath rocks, and the information that comes with it is top notch. And, despite the fears that I felt that the handle would be too thin and short, it is neither. Fits my big hands perfectly. I think it's pretty light, and it in the sheath glues right to my hip. I'd be more than willing to EDC this blade. I can't wait to start using it.

I'd like to thank Rat Cutlery for such an awesome product. I'd also like to thank them not only for the knife, but for the support they give their customers. For great knives and service, I most definitely will be buying more Rat products soon.

Welcome to the club!

On the handle....I have had a few returned because it is too small. I always tell them the same thing--use it and you'll find out, it is not too small, but just right.

:)

Enjoy it!

No time like the present! Now get an Izula, an RC-6, an RC-3, a fire kit, and a t-shirt. That stuff should tide you over until the SERE knife and others come out.

Yer killin me! I'm sittin here trying to be good and not buy another knife until the RC5 SERE comes out.

I picked up the RC6 as my first RAT and am torn now between an RC4 or an Izula kit.

Only reason I didn't pick up the RC4 was concerns about the handle size.

That is spot on Derrick. I had the same first impression that the handle was just a tad too short, but the more I handled it the more I liked it. I also like that the slabs are kinda thin. The more I use it the more I feel the way the handle is constructed enables better dexterity.

Checkin' quickly here and just wanted to say thanks for the post. The RC-3 and RC-4 handles were designed around using. They initially feel small in the hand but after you use them a while you will see why they're built the way they are. Mike and I tweaked and used a lot of handles before coming up with this particular handle size and style. They work.

See how ya are guys. Now I've gone and ordered an RC4. I'll take the info I've recieved here on the handle size into consideration. I can honestly say these RAT knives are the finest production knives I've had the pleasure of using.

Cmdr249 and I got together yesterday for a little hiking and knife comparing. As you can see below, we brought a few blades, production, semi-production and custom. Let me just say that the RC-products stack as well as anything on that table! I really like the Becker's too which give you rat guys a run for you money in the price/performance ratio. However, the mircata grips are a definite edge.

Yep - even with my customs collection growing, whenever I hold an RC-4 in my hand, I think - this knife is a great all-around blade!

Oh - btw most of those blades are all Cmdr's :)
