In another recent thread about my first Spydreco circa 1990 Sal made a brief post detailing the history of the model. That got me thinking that maybe it's time for a Spyderco book telling the history of the company and the stories behind all the different models.

Spyderco is a successful American company that has become an icon. Sal, you have created jobs and supported families and touched the lives of a lot of people with your products. I'm sure a book describing your company's journey from infancy to the present would be of interest to many of us here as well as to many in the general public who buy business books by the millions.

You probably started off as a knife guy but ended up having to wear many hats and learn to deal with international suppliers, government regulators, etc. I think it would make a great book.

May I suggest a title: "The Hole Truth"

Let me know when I can pre-order:)

There is a book. It's called The Spyderco Story: The New Shape of Sharp. Came out in late 99 early 2000. Seriously outdated now but has some killer info on early models and custom collabs. We definately need a Vol 2. This book is still in print. Look for it in the new paperbound version from Paladin publishing.

Personally, I'd like to see a knifemaking/knife-designing memoir by Sal and probably a ghost writer.

Sal has gone from the proverbial nothing to a mass market maker/designer in a business where many fail, a road not often travelled. There would appear to be more than a bit of insightful experience there.

Since so much has happened since The Spyderco Story was printed (2000), I have to agree with Harry that a second ed. is due. Don't know if Sal has time for such an undertaking, but it woud be welcome.

A lot has happened since the book. The Walmart Native, the Byrd line, the legal hassles concerning the Spyderfly, the Volpe's production being taken over by Fox Cutlery, the unexplained use of the trademarked Spyderhole by another company, the development of the Baliyo, putting the Spyderench back into the catalog, etc etc etc. So many custom collabs to cover. A vol 2 would be a huge undertaking, no doubt, but there is plenty of material to write about.

If not a book, maybe a professionally produced DVD like the one Chris Reeve Knives has.

I’m with you guys, I would love to see a second volume. It would be a large undertaking but Sal could hire a ghost writer, all he would have to do is read and compile the information from his thousands of posts over the last 10 years and he would be able to give Sal a decent start.
