Dear Sal, how about shorten the para's blade to 3"?

Right now, it's 3 3/32".

I really don't think that extra 3/32" makes any difference in functionality or its look. But it does make the damn difference in many states' knife law (e.g., right here in our nation's capital).

We have this same issue with mini-manix, too.

Those are some of the most lovely and strong spydies, but due to that tiny little bit of extra length, many of us cannot carry them in those states.

Pleeeeeezzzzz!

I suggest buying the knives and sending them into the factory to have the blades shortened.

good solution

But I do agree that 3/32 isn't doing anyone any good V. the places makes people stop carrying the knife.

But then i can't stand the silly knives with 3 inch blades and the handles for four inch blades.

I agree...
It would be ideal to have the para manufactured to meet various states/countries knife laws but I think there is already a knife out there meets that criteria (UKPK)...

I think having the blade redone by Spyderco is the way to go.

I wouldnt like to see a bunch of production models with all the blades at a 3" length.. its nice having different knives with individual specs: adds to their individuality.

Not to mention that once your blade is done you'll have a one of a kind paramilitary....

I don't think it will be one of a kind. As I recall, Sal said those blades are final ground by hand, and they do vary a bit. Mine is 3 1/8", and I have seen a few other numbers kicked around. It could be shortened a little without difficulty, or at least, less difficulty than getting your stupid local laws changed. I thought our stupid local laws were bad enough :D

Handles designed to "fit" a 3 inch blade usually aren't as comfortable. Biggest reason I carry larger knives is superior ergonomics rather than the longer blade.

I am pretty sure that the blade length of para can be measured as 3" if it is measured in the "right" way. and that 3/32" can also be treated as toleratable inaccuracies during manufacturing. Couldn't spyderco just update the spec data of the para on its website?

There are always going to be people who wish a certain knife had a shorter blade, usually because of local knife laws. Spyderco's line is kind of overwhelming already IMO .... besides it wouldn't be that hard to shorten the Para's blade if you wanted to.
