"Dearest" knife you've every lost?

Those of you CRK Forumites are probably already familiar the sad saga of my most recently lost Small Sebenza; which was crushing because of both the cost and hwo much I had grown attached to the little bugger.

Now, I just read another thread where a gentlemen refers to the loss of his William-Henry that he received as an Anniversary gift...

So that begs the question: What is the dearest knife you have every lost? And Did you replace it immediately?

I say "dearest", because it doesn't necessarily mean the largest financial loss--it could be a large sentimental loss too.

BTW, I replaced my Small Sebbie immediately.

I had a Delica stolen from my house when some work was being done in my basement. There were multiple workers so I have no idea which one took it and obviously nothing could ever be proven. Imagine calling up the cops and telling 'em that one:
"I had a knife stolen by a workman."
"Who?"
"I don't know. One of 'em."
"How do you know?"
"It was there and then it wasn't."
"You sure you didn't lose it?"
"Yep."
"Your word against theirs."

I saved the time of the PD and myself and decided not to make such a silly call. Instead, I replaced the Delica, but I always think back about the one stolen. It doesn't feel good to let a thief in your house and then not be able to deal with it.

Never lost one, and that's the only one that's been stolen. Could be worse.

I can think of two instances of losing knives that were very dear to me. The most dear knife loss was that of a small, flat ground, Jess Horn Spyderco with white micarta scales. I lost it at a hotel in South Africa. My wife gave to me as a present for our first aniversary and she has never forgiven me for losing it. The second very dear knife I lost was a large Queen stockman that I could not find after my first at work at a museum. It was a really great user that my sister gave me and it was the absolute best stockman I have ever owned.

You know guys, there really is something therapeutic in commiserating with others who've had similar experiences...

THe one you mentioned that lost a WH that was a first anniversary gift.

It pains me that your post illustrates that I could possibly lose my now beloved Small Sebenza (replacement EDC for the WH who's replacement now lives in the safe).

Sorry to hear of your loss. This must be even worse with a true custom. We both lost high end production knives that we could replace, but a custom???? I don't even want to think about it.

I, too, had a Delica that I came to love...it went everywhere with me. It was also one of the models with the plastic clips, which they dont make anymore. I replaced it, but lost that one, too. I think my X had a blade vendetta against me and is secretly a knife knut.
Oh well, never replaced it. Also, lost a CS mini tanto at her place...hmm, coincidence...I think NOT!
Makes me wonder.

Happy knifing!

I lost my EDC Buck 112 many years ago, and it broke my heart. That knife had considerable sentimental value for me, because I had taken it everywhere and done everything with it. It's still the standard by which I judge hard use folders (and it had the scars to prove it). It slipped out of my pocket one night, never to be seen again.

Not too long ago I went to a small gathering of folks that I'd met through a forum and that shared a love of guns and knives. We all brought a selection of our guns and knives to show off and lust over. One that I brought was a James Luman Damascus Utility. At the end of the affair, when we all packed up to go home, the knife was missing.

Everyone remembered seeing and fondling it, but no one would admit that they had it. The sad part is that's one of the few knives I don't even have a picture of.

When I was 12 or 13, my Grandfather's present to me was to buy any knife I picked out down at the local department store. I got a Victorinox Explorer. I loved that knife. During my freshman year of college, it was one of two knives that walked off. The other was an Old Timer middleman jack. Miss 'em both to this day. :(

On bad days I think about what I'd like to do to the punk/s who took my knives.

I lost a small pocket knife I inherited from my grandfather. It still pains me to think about that.

Well, I've recently misplaced a superfine fixed-blade hunter I bought from a renowned mastersmith. I haven't seen it in several weeks. It's not in any of it's several usual resting spots. I have a worst-case scenario in mind - and it's entirely possible that's the case, but I'm in denial, and too damned embarrassed to disclose what it is, or who the maker was. :o

The best knife I know I've lost is an ATCF I bought from Terzoula back in the mid 80's.:(

Well, can it be any worse than how I lost my Small Sebbie? I was out to lunch at a busy Dim-Sum (carpeted) restaurant, when my antsy 2.5 yr daughter wants to climb on me while jumping up-and-down. Low and behold, 2 hours after lunch I realize the Sebbie's been kicked-off my pants pockets by little Jordan.

Now, some waiter or patron unknowingly has a $300.00 "pocket knife" they're probably using to cut string with...

Three come to mind. When I was 13 or 14 I got a P-14 Enfield bayonet with a 17" blade. I carried it as a machete for years. I think it disappeared when I was off at college. There were a couple others stolen in a house burglary. The funny thing is that I know who took them, but didn't want to cause any more inter-family strife than was caused when we sent the cops to get my brother's stereo back. At the time I figured they would be cheap to replace. One was a German fixed-blade stilleto that I had hollow ground. The other was my trusty Collins machete. Little did I know that Collins had closed down.

Back when I was in the service, the first time we moved one of the movers skimmed the cream off the top of my collection  (including a beautiful rigging knife with scrimshawed wild ram scales). Back then I wasn't as much of a knife nut and I didn't even go looking for them until I was 3000 miles away and it was a couple of months after unpacking. That rigging knife is the one that still stings a little.

I have only lost one knife and it was a Gerber Paul. It had no real sentimental value, but it syre upset me at the time.

Maybe not my dearest but the only knife I ever lost was a Spyderco Military. Snorkeling in Hawaii, clipped to my swimtrunks. When I got back to shore..................the knife was gone!

Some POS thief stole a NIB Cold Steel Gunsite folder out of my friggin' mailbox while I was at work awhile back, if that counts as a loss...:(.. Since then, I've been too paranoid to have packages sent directly to me. (I have 'em sent to me c/o "General Delivery".).

Two years ago, while on a routine assignment, some bastid had pried open my bikes luggage compartment. I lost my Spyderco Jess Horn lightweight, Centofante II in its Spydie pouch, a ladybug and a Snap-it.. Took me some time to get over the loss.. :(
