Ok, I'm working on a trade with a guy right now for a blur and I'm not a huge fan of speedsafe so I'm wondering if the blur is one of the models where if you take the torsion bar out you still have the detent so that the knife doesn't just flop around?

Thanks,
Zach

I have got to try de-assisting a Blur. So many folks say the Blur is better without the assist.

I don't own any assisted-opening knives, so I imagine that I'd agree. I generally prefer fewer moving parts in all things mechanical.

greetings all,
tried it with one of mine and to be honest, the detent isn't as solid as my non-assisted kershaws. maybe it's mine but had to tighten the pivot [where the blade didn't fall out] making it hard to open. i do agree that it would be sweet having it non-assist. better luck to you guys.

I'm not sure why you'd have to tighten the pivot. If the detent is a bit weak, then bending in the lock bar slightly will help with that. Non of my Blurs had the blade just falling out...

I tried this and found I prefer the speedsafe. I have alot of manual openers and for some reason the Blur just seems like it should be assisted.

I've de-assisted all my blurs and there's one good reason for it....super smooth action.

I had no issues with it assisted but I really began to appreciate the manual action...in fact, play time with it is more than before.

As for detent....it is a tad weaker than norm but I have many other folders with the same or weaker detent...ie: Boker Exskelibur

With everyday use and proper pocket handling, it's more than sufficient.

Funny...can't really call it Blur now...lol

I too have to try this I tried de-assisting my 0350 and it wouldn't flip worth a damn and to get it tight enough where the blade was not rubbing was a mother, but im curious on a blur.

I think i may be slightly in favor of manual blurs. extremely smooth once you take that bar out. i carry my manual blurs more than my assisted blurs. there super fun to play with too, just for an added bonus :D

I tried it, didn't care for it. One of those things that you gotta try for yourself to see how you like it.
