I am wondering if anyone has done this yet, and if there were any particular issues to be concerned with? Does it flip smoothly and easily? I'm generally ok with AO except that I am finding that I really like to be able to easily close the knife one-handed. I think the 0801 (and the Hogue EX-02 - nice, but can't touch the 0801 for smoothness) is spoiling me in favor of manual action.

Thanks for your experiences and opinions.

Thanks Ruudr. I'm hoping others will tell me that they have done it without having to switch washers, recenter the blade, and use their wrist to open the knife manually. I'd rather leave it AO if it isn't going to be an easy and effective switch.

The main thing is that they put a detent ball on the liner and a corresponding hole in the blade. After that, it's really just a matter of tuning the knife to flip well.

The washer switch is optional. The smaller washer is needed to clear the torsion bar, without the bar there you can put a larger washer in, but it looks like it would be unsupported on part the handle side due to the hole for the torsion bar, so I don't see a huge benefit there.

With any manual flipper, the action is going to be a balance between the detent strength and how smooth/loose the pivot is, and that will take some manual tuning to get right, especially in a knife that was previously tuned to be an AO.

Fwiw the 0770 alu has a detent and some people successfully got theirs to be a manual, but mine can't. I don't mean it is a bad manual flupper. I mean the detent just doesnt hold the blade in. The only way for it to stay closed is by tightening down the pivot to increase friction.
