A Masterpiece for sure.......guess who made this one.
I came across this and couldn't believe what I saw. The seller, God Bless them, had no idea what they possessed and made no mention that it was a named piece of "art in a highly resistive medium"....quote from my ABS Mastersmith friend Hank Knickmeyer explaining handmade knives....and "embellished in German-silver", quote from the seller.
Needless to say, all of the parts/pieces are TIG welded stainless steel EXCEPT the guard and pommel.....Tom informed me that they are made from heat-treated D2, the same as the blade steel, and can be seen in the subtle difference between the color of the stainless and the D2.
If there could be anything I could have wished more for, than running across this beauty, is that it would have had a 2" longer cutting edge, Tom's starting point for a sword. He made 60 blades he considered swords out of the 931 he lists serial numbers for.....except number 666, never made that one.
Mint in condition, masterful in it's execution, virtually perfect in it's making.....absolutely World Class and some of the custom pieces that, as a new collector, I marveled at were Tom's take-down wonders.
Enough.....some specs:
Cutting Edge: 16"
Tip to Guard: 17 3/8"
Blade Width: 2" at the widest
Handle between Guard and Pommel: 4 3/4"
Guard Width: 5 1/2"
Overall Length: 23"
Sheath: Stainless Tip and File-Worked Throat over leather-covered, cork-lined wood.
Maybe Tom can fill us in with some addition details.....this thing is truly phenomenal.
