Hi

First post here, but reader from a few weeks now. I am looking for a knife, and my choice narrowed to those two knives. And I can't decide witch one to buy.
Any thought on pro's and con's on those. I will not try to chop a three with my knife, Some wood carving and all arround use for them.

Personal preference for me would be the Fehrman. I don't think you could go wrong with either though

welcome to forum ereninion both knives are great quality. i like the ferhman since the steel is increadibly tuff, ca'nt hardly dull it. i would give the strength issue to ferhman but i imagine it's some heavier than the fallkniven.

My vote goes to the Fehrman Peace Maker. That is a good looking knife! You may want to consider the HRLM by Swamp Rat. Very similar in size and a little less cost to you. There is no sacrifice in quality; it's a tough knife.

On point to fehrman is That it probably easier to sharpen than The fallkniven cause fallkniven is convex. But fallkniven is stainless...

I already have a buck special (119) want something a bit smaller for more day to day use.

Looked at ratknives and just don't appeal to me, not saying they aren't good, just personnal feeling.
I have my buck for "brute" atm. And with looking at picture, handle on fehrman seem bigger, and I have average hand. wish i could hold both knives in hand before buying, but here in quebec, canada, hard to find both knife in a store just to handle them to feel them a bit....

And in the worst scenario, can fallkniven work as a brute and can a fehrman work as a gentleman?

anyone know how is the rusting on fehrman knives? very prone to rust or kind of resistant? Blade in satin finish i mean

you have to work at it to get rust. i chopped mesquite one sat. & didnt oil blade till wed. 10 months & no rust yet. nephew used it for a month--never oiled & no rust.minimal care is all you need.

yes they can. but overall, im with alot of the other guys, the fehrman is the way to go. the fallkniven are good blades, but i believe the fehrman hold up much better. i have seen first hand a fallkniven chip with some hard force but never once a fehrman. fehrmans 3V is some very impressive steel

just my 2 cents

You can't really go wrong with either. That being said, I absolutely love Fallkniven knives, but the Fehrman is definitely the way to go. Fehrman knives are of the highest quality, and well worth every cent you pay (and then some).

Really depends on how you plan to use it. The FK is more of a pure cutter, slicer with its edge geometry and should be a better wood carver because the edge is closer to your index finger. The Fehrman would make a great all around knife that could take more abuse. I'm not a fan of blades with big finger choils for fine work. I'd probably get the Fehrman and pair it with a folder or small carving/utility blade. ... as for maintaining a convexed edge .... I think they are the easiest.

I'll throw in for Fehrman as well. I've done some reviews (use the search function) on BF and can assure you that the Fehrman 3v is excellent steel. It can take a lot of abuse and snaps back to a razor edge with only a bit of stropping. The uncoated 3v will get some surface rust after a couple weeks if you don't wipe it down after use (sort of like D2) but it is no big deal. Flitz removes it immediately if it bothers you.

Although not inexpensive, I consider Fehrman's knives to be an excellent value based on the edge-retention and ability to handle heavy use and abuse.

I went with fehrman... think it is easier for a brute to act like a gentleman :D

Was a close race between the two knives tho
