So I've been thinking about trading my Rodent 9 for a 911 scrapyard. The more I handle the Rodent 9 the more I think I like Res-C handles on my big choppers. Just dont know, the Rodent 9 looks better in my opinion, but I feel if Im actually going to use it I'll be better off with the scrapyard. any opinions??

I'd rather have the Scrapyard 911 than the Rodent 9. I had the Rodent 9 for a brief spell and while it is a great knife, I decided that res-c handles would be ideal in a chopper that may especially see use in cold weather.

The 911 basically appears to be a Rodent 9 with a res-c handle and square choil. The blade itself looks to be virtually identical so if you like the blade of the Rodent 9 but want res-c, the 911 should be a no-brainer. The only thing that could make the 911 better for me is not having a choil, but that's another matter as always.....;)

I haven't handled a 911 but I love putting that Rodent 9 to use! The handle suits me well, especially with gloves, and I appreciate how well balanced it is:

If the SYKCO 911 is the R9 blade with the slimmed tang and light ResC, I'm not sure where it will balance... The R9 is very comfortable to choke-up due to the chamferred choil and spine + slanted transition from scales to blade. I cut similar slants into my SYKCO 511 for increased comfort, not sure if others have made similar modifications of 911's or Dog Fathers or Battle Rats or Busse basics, etc.

That said, the 911 should be lighter, ~15 oz vs the R9's ~23 oz, the Res-C should be a better shock absorber, and Res-C is certainly warmer in cold weather! But I prefer the looks/style of the Rodent 9. Perhaps one day I'll wrap the handle in "ranger bands". *shrug*

Yeah, I have a Dogfather and a 1311, love them, the R9 looks good, but I plan to use it, and want soemthign lighter than my Dogfather, and shorter than my 1311, I posted it up for trade, figure it might as well go to someone who will enjoy it, and i'll get somethign i will use

Well said Brother!!! Living here in Alaska and facing a tremendous temp swing in the coarse of a year one learns what works for them. I like Res-C, BUT I have found that I prefer G-10 or Micarta and gloves in the winter. Impact gloves work great cause they add in the pressure displacement. A Res-C will absorb impact and displace it rather well also, just one thing. When it's -10'F I don't care who you are you will be wearing gloves. So you might as well have a full tang knife to hammer home with. Now during the summer time, yea the Res-C is comfortable especially doing minor clearing and camp chores. EVERYONE has there opinion but the truth of the matter it all comes down to what is comfortable to the individual. One other thing and this IMO, I wish the hilts were larger and longer on the Res-C knives. I think that would also change some of those impact dynamics even more so.

I like that the 911 provides an insulated grip, as well as shock absorbtion. However, micarta is more abrasion-resistant. The 911 is only SLIGHTLY heaver than my SARGE (<1oz if I remember correctly), and it's a good size to fulfill multiple roles. Some people REALLY love the Rodent handles though... if you decide to go with a 911, and want a desert camo version, give me a shout!

I'm not sure where it will balance...

The 911 balances just in front of the choil.

I have both and I'm not even sure I know which one I like best. The 911 feels a lot lighter to me. left the Rodent 9 at my gf's so I'll take the 911 over next weekend and do a side by side comparison.

I ordered a 911, liek I really needed it, guess I'll keep the R9 also, so now in the big knife realm, I have a Dogfather, a 1311, a 911 and a r9, geez.....

I think if anything, once you get your 911 you'll probably want to get rid of your Rodent 9.......;) The Rodent 9 handle is a love/hate thing for me at this point. It worked really well for choking up or down the blade, but it adds A LOT of weight to the rear of the knife and adds a little length to the overall length vs. the 911 being more front heavy and compact. The R9 handle is really well designed, but I just think it's very hard to beat res-c on a chopping knife. The 911 will be VERY similar to your Dogfather, but will still be different enough to possibly warrant keeping them both depending on your money situation. Congrats!

Not a SYKCO 911, but my Basic-9. Same thing as the 911, but with an assym. edge - wouldn`t trade it for any other knife...Hadn`t used a R9, but my wotes goes to the 911.
